Went and got my bow license for deer today. Found out this year I could get an antlerless tag too! This makes it easier. Last year I had to round up three other people with the time to sit with me while I killed Bambi. I think four more again this year and we'll have the population back under control. It'll really help if I can convince four adult does to die for a good cause. I know at least one doe from last year's fawn crop has taken up residence about 100 yards from the house. She's on the hit list because she'll eat good and it will count as two next spring if I don't kill her. There's an older doe hanging around that has triplets. If she's the one I think, she's looks to be 10 or older. Good for burger mixed with pork shoulder and green chorizo but for the tenderloins and chops. She'll count as three at least next spring. I have a little fawn showing up on camera but I haven't seen momma or any siblings yet. I haven't shot a buck in ten years, but there's a nicely fleshed forkie hanging around I might shoot if it gets to be December and I still have a tag to fill.

Deer are incredibly destructive when the numbers get out of control. It doesn't take long for them to eat all their "wild" food and then they start on gardens and shrubs. They'll tear down bird feeders to empty them. The neighborhood coyotes don't seem to be bothering them even a little bit.

Where in Minnesota are you? There were a TON of deer last year, and the Winter wasn't exactly harsh. I was a little surprised that we have a doe lottery in our zone again (242) this year, as up until 2 years ago we were intensive harvest, and we are seeing more deer now than we were when we all carried bonus tags.

I'm in 180 and 800 permits were available this year. There were about 7 deer left in 180 after the last few winters. This past winter sure did help them out!
