I'm telling you, I like the pic's of the dead bulls on what appears to be flat ground. Most of the time I have to tie mine off so they do not slide to the bottom..

Al took that bull in the Yukon a few years back. It went 470" gross. He used his trusty .270.

I took this while bowhunting deer a few years ago. These were satellite bulls following a real monster who was farther up the hill with his 20 cows. This 6x6 would have been a herd bull in most places.
This was from about 80 yds. If I'd had a tag, I'm pretty sure I could have crawled within range. While he's looked toward me, he didn't see me. He's actually looking at some cattle behind me.

Here is last seasons cow and the old .375 H & H.. Since our local seasons are for any elk, I usually take the first fat cow elk I see.. This was a pretty long shot for the .375..
But it worked this time..

From (all but one) past elk hunts:

My longest shot ever, 487 yards, was from here, shortly after this photo was taken. Cow elk in the freezer.

Gorgeous alpine lake:

Hunting buddy of nearly 20 years. No elk but some awesome scenery:
[Linked Image]

The day before we were literally surrounded by elk here and I took one. Then came the snow. This day, no elk, but I got my second before the trip was over.
[Linked Image]

We've taken quite a few elk out of this area over the years. I sure miss Big Red and the power of the diesel engine.

Son-in-law (right) and I skinning an antelope. The skinning rack takes only a few seconds to set up.

Son-in-law and daughter #2. A herd of elk showed up a few minutes later at the bottom of the hill.
[Linked Image]

No elk here this trip, but what a view. Bakers Peak is in the background. Another year we took three out of this general area.
[Linked Image]

Home sweet home for many a hunt.
[Linked Image]

Overwatch. Nothing like a good book to help pass the time. That and laying back in the warm sun listening to the occasional elk bugle. Got my cow at dusk the second day.

My wife sent me these tonight from the little ranch where she is hanging out near Jackson, WY.

This guy has been hanging around for several days with a "harem" of three cows, bugling almost constantly
[Linked Image]

Then. this evening, this guy showed up with almost 30 cows and calves
[Linked Image]

After a bit, a 5x5 showed up and the old boy started screaming at him
[Linked Image]

It was a cloudy, drizzly evening and that is about all she could get before the light failed.

I'm out, there all covering wood right now. Damn... But if I get to go hunting again this year because Ma just got out of the hospital.. I definitely need to pick up a couple more.

I had this one within 35 yards ready to wrestle, you could probably have hit it. Time I got the cell phone out for a picture he was going going gone (chicken chit). This picture he was at 100 lazered yards ready for a Texas heart shot, out of range for a leg bar. I chased him to the ridge line and almost had him until I tripped on my tennis shoes strings... Getting out of shape.

Thanks. I just bought a smaller Osprey pack after using one for a day hunt in Colorado last month and really like it so far. Great stuff.
