Shopping for custom grips for my 3-Screw Blackhawk .41. Noting that on the popular sites (example: gungrips.com), no separate category exists for the Old Model 3-screw guns.
Are New Model grips compatible? Super Blackhawk grips compatible?
Thanks.

I made my own for my Ruger Three Screw Single Six, .357 and .44 Mag. Cocobolo, Vera and Black Walnut make great stocks. Making your own will give you a good fit and comfort for the heavy loads. DREMEL is the stock makers friend. Haven't figured how to post pictures yet but will show them off when I do. Have made all my own holsters as well and they are very nice if I may say so.

IIRC the old and new model Blackhawks both use the XR3-RED. The change from XR3 to XR3-RED happened when they went from the slightly smaller "flat top" frame, to the larger "Blackhawk" frame, and has nothing to do with being 3 screw or new model.
Someone chime in to confirm if I remember this correctly or if I got it wrong...feeble mind.

look this link over, ' http://www.gunblast.com/Hamm_Ruger-SA-GripFrames.htmNew model Blackhawk grips will fit a three screw 41. I have one that way. I wanted to slim down the grips and didn't want to ruin the original black eagle grips that came on the gun. I use the new and the black eagles are in a drawer in case I ever decide to sell the gun.

Thanks all (and especially wrong-handed Remington)!

The only smaller frame was the .357Mag Blackhawks and that frame size continued until New Model production. The .44Mag flat-top was a large frame with the same grip frame. In 1959, the Super Blackhawk only added the protective rear sight ears, longer "Dragoon" grip frame, wider hammer/trigger and unfluted cylinder. The change from XR3 to XR3-RED happened in 1962. The XR3 is a dead ringer for the Colt SAA/Navy grip. The RED version just has more room behind the triggerguard. ALL grips of the RED pattern interchange.

Look under XR3 grips. He will make most any single action Ruger grip you want. http://www.clccustomgrips.com/
