I know it's the most chit talked rifle on here, but I don't care.

ABolt II SS 243, $550 from Bass Pro. Talleys and the former Nikon Monarch UCC 3-9x40, which is now their Buckmaster with BDC ($130). Also got a lightweight trigger spring which made a world of difference. Was right around $800 as it sits - a whole lot cheaper than the AI!

Can't wait to see how it shoots

One of my brothers has been hunting with a SS/Synthetic A-Bolt for about fifteen years, now--mostly in central and south Texas, but also here in New Mexico. It's a .270 WSM and he has killed a schitload of deer, hogs and exotic ungulates with it.

I know that they have a bad reputation here on the campfire, but he continues to put a LOT of meat in the freezer with it every year. I don't think that it has seen a gunsmith since the scope was mounted and bore-sighted, when he bought it.

YMMV.

Edited to add, he's also put a few trophies on the wall. smile

Yup I know most here don't like them but I've never seen an A Bolt that wasn't accurate.

I bought a .270 A Bolt back in 1991. I killed a schitload of deer and elk with hat rifle before rifle loonyism set in.

It is on it's second barrel now and still shoots exceptionally well.

I totally wore out the first barrel, as it was my only BG rifle for a good number of years. Everything from big game to rockchucks, to ground squirrels, to coyotes and foxes were bagged with that ABolt.

Zero complaints.

Here is an old toad that I dropped opening morning the first year I owned it. Dang near 25 years ago now. Wearing my trusty .44 Super Blackhawk in a homemade rig too.

Killed a bunch of grouse with that .44 later that day, popping their heads off.

One of the most stellar hunting days I can ever recal.

I bought a used ABolt in 22/250 about twenty yrs ago about the same I was starting reloading. It proved to be one of the most consistant/accurate rifles I've ever owned. Foolishly, I traded it away only to regret it. I was lucky to get it back finally this year. Still shoots great!

Taco -

I've only had 1 Browning CF. It was a BBR and it had a problem that Browning could not fix. That's NOT an A bolt.

IMO - YOU are the only one who needs to be happy. It doesn't matter if the whole world doesn't like it.

Good Luck, Good Shooting, Good Hunting!

My abolt is accurate. 30-06. It was a gift. Never warmed up to that boss system but the rifle operated flawlessly and fit me very well. Some day I will get around to having it rebarreled.

I only have one Abolt and Hornet.. I really like it.

Mackay, that was a very nice buck you took with that .270..
The more I shoot that caliber, the more I like it.. I owned my first one probably 50 years ago. Several since that one, but my current one is a real favorite.. Wish I would have found it long ago...

Nice rifle. I have one A-Bolt and have been very satisfied with it.

Glad you like it. I'd pass every time nowadays--there are certainly better rifles available in that price range.

Only own one A-bolt. A 270 White Gold Medallion. One of the most accurate rifles I've ever owned but it tends to sit in the safe because it's too nice to hunt with!

I don't get the hatred for them. I have three original model A-Bolts (.257 Roberts, .25-06, .284 Win) and they are all tackdrivers. I'll take an A-Bolt over an X-Bolt any day. Just can't warm up to the X-Bolt.

I have two, a Hunter in 7mm-08 and a Field model in 243 WSSM. Both are wonderfully accurate and I love how light they are. My only issue was feeding rounds anywhere close to mag length in the WSSM. That was easily fixed with some shims to move the lips closer inwards to get the cartridges up quicker. Two of my favorite rifles.

When I had my shop in Alabama, there was a time during the 80's and 90's when I scoped and sighted in more A-Bolt Stalkers and Stainless Stalkers than any other single model of any other rifle, and most of them were .270's, with .30-06 and 7mm Rem Mag being the next most common. I never had a single one of them that wasn't a shooter.

I always squared the crosshairs to the receiver. Then I bore sighted the old fashioned way - sandbagging the rifle, removing the bolt, looking down the barrel and centering a target a hundred or better yards away, then moving the crosshairs on the scope to match. Almost all of them would be within 3 or 4, usually less, inches of dead center when I fired them.

Most customers just wanted plain Green-box Remington ammo. A few would want Fed Premium.

They were so simple, I loved to see customers bring them in. Quick Easy Money!

I hope to live, hunt and shoot long enough for some rifle to best my lefty A-Bolt SS in .270 at making meat. It's a great shooting rifle with fantastic ergonomics. Gave it to my son.
