I have a cleaned-up large ring/small thread Turkish Mauser action that I've been meaning to put together for a few years. The Rhineland 7.62x39 barrels look like a pretty good idea with a Savage style lock ring. However, feeding and extraction of this cartridge was a bit unreliable when tried in a different Turk rifle.
Does anyone make similar barrels in .473" head diameter chambering? I'd prefer 7x57 since I already have a substantial supply of reloading components. I know I could have one custom made but this is a low-budget project and $120ish is my target price for a barrel.

Check out the barrels that Midway sells. IIRC they have a fairly low priced line of small ring Mauser barrels. Should be close to your price point but can't remember the the name they sell under just now.

Yes Kenoh, check Midway. I was looking there last week and they have a bunch from $100-$225. I have a small ring 250-3000 barrel I've been looking for an action for. If you don't find a suitable mate I might try to beat you out of that old KKale. powdr

Last I looked, the barrels at Midway are short chambered Green Mountain. I was hoping to be able to find one that uses a Savage type lock nut since I've never operated a chamber reamer. I haven't looked into the actual measurements myself but one reviewer on Midway said the shank would have to be lengthened.

Most aftermarket barrel makers for mauser actions use a conventional barrel tenon to headspace against. Rhineland was quite ingenious to use the Savage style nut for home smiths that aren't set up to chamber a barrel.
You could have a gunsmith thread a barrel for a savage style nut, but you'd be out the same $ as having him chamber one of the short chambered barrels.
