180 7mm scenar at 700 yards #10421782 09/12/15 Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 11,352 Denver 30338 OP Campfire Outfitter OP 30338 Campfire Outfitter Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 11,352 Denver Son shot his first black bear shot at 700 yards with 180 Scenar last weekend hunting with me. Impact velocity with 180 scenar was 2042 fps at that elevation. Bullet retains 111 grains of weight and looks like a partition. Recovered with nose poking out of opposite side. Bear was shot on near side shoulder and came to rest behind opposite shoulder. Made a 30 yard downhill dash and found dead. More results later if the deer and elk cooperate for him again.

I cant wait to use these on coues deer this year, I am just a little worried if our 100# deer will make the bullet open up or not. But, that bullet looks AMAZING!

We ran 67-71 grains of Retumbo and a WLRM. They clocked 2700-2900, stabalized just fine, and shot about 4" at 600. (at about 5000' ASL) Thinking the Scenar will be fine in a Rem. factory twist... but weirder schitt has definitely happened. I shot about a dozen of these loads... and they were a solid step up in the recoil department. Not obnoxious... but noticeably more than the 162s at 3k... You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......

Factory Rem mag seemed to stablize them just fine to 1000. Picked up some 180 Scenars but have yet to load any up. Playing with a couple 6.5 in my limited time right now. Never take life to seriously, after all ,no one gets out of it alive.

It's also about SD. Two bullets with an equal form factor, but one is made of styrofoam, and the other lead and copper, will have very different BC values...

If you start using different bullet materials, you're no longer comparing on common ground.

Horrible, SC Form factors are not uniform brother, each bullet of same weight with different design has a different form factor as compared to the standard which is a factor or "1" Unless you are meaning to say that each model of the same weight bullet from the same MFG have the same form factor. Or that each bullet of the same weight and caliber have the same SD? So a 200 AB to another 200 AB should have the same form factor. But a 200 AB to a 200 LRX will likely not have the same factor. SD= Grain/7000 / (caliber)^2 Form = SD/G7 So anywhere bullets of the same weight and caliber have a different G7 from one another, they will also have a different form factor. I should have said "universally comparable" as an analytical tool. Meaning as long as bullet construction is equal, a lower form factor means a slipperier bullet, ignoring weight and caliber.

My long rage shooting knowledge is slim for sure and I'm still trying to wrap my head around that heavy-for-caliber projectile, especially from a short-range drop perspective. They seem to have a longer bearing surface than the 180 hybrid. Scenar 180's look slick and appear to have great quality control. I might be interested in trying these in a 28 Nosler I'm building.

They tuned super easy and I didn't go through too many rounds before I settled on one. I'd twist it 8.5 and shoot either the scenars or the 195 bergers.

Starsky used those 180 scenars again this year. Bull was around 550 yards. One bullet recovered looked exactly like another nosler partition. I've shot a few things this year with a 195 berger eol and to me, the 180 scenar seems to be a harder bullet that is penetrating deeper. At some point, I might switch over but nothing has survived the 195s yet either.

The Scenar seems to be shooting a little better in my 28 Nosler. Both print same POI at 100 yards FWIW.

I've seen a lot of expansion issues out of the 180 hybrid..Meaning not expanding. the 195 EOL and 180 Scenar are far better hunting bullets, seeing consistent results out of them. Just passing along what i've seen.

Did an entire front flip.
