From the website:

"The best time to view elk seems to be in the late afternoon. Keep in mind that there may be periods of time when no wildlife is visible on camera. Be aware that, at times, nature can be difficult to watch.
"

Just for fun I looked and it's 0145 there now. Really dark. Needless to say, I didn't see any "nature" blush

Thanks for the link Dale,

Geno

I've seen some pics of huge bulls in PA. When they don't get shot, they can get to impressive size sometimes.

Starting here in E WA too, poison ivy getting red, maples along the river have leaves turning too.

Now I think I'll try to access the cam, seeing as how it's daytime. grin

You all enjoy your hunts back there,

Geno

Thanks Dale,

I think that's a cool idea. I wonder what other kind of critters one might see if they h ad time to watch for a while.

The national elk refuge near Jackson, WY has webcams set up. You can see lots of elk and stuff like wolves on occasion. I heard that 2 grizzlies have been seen recently, the 1st in many years.

I watched last night about 3 am PA time. Cool night vision. Saw a couple cows feeding in the open and could hear several bulls bellowing away in the woods nearby. Really neat!

From a press release: and some good-sized bull elk, not to mention turkeys, deer and other wildlife, already have made appearances.

Earlier this year they had a camera on an eagles nest, it had a ton of viewers.

I bet all of those and plenty others like both kinds of fox, some porkipines, maybe racoons.

Do you happen to know if the fishers have made it down near Benezette yet. I saw some over by Warren and Cherry Grove back in '99/'00. Wardens told me they released them in the Cherry Grove area and were surprised I had seem them near Warren.

Again, all you Pennsyltuckians have a great fall.

There's a fisher season, a large portion of the state (mostly the northern half) is open. Benezette would be in the heart of the open area. My parents neighbors think they saw one near DuBois last year.

So I'd say they are there.

Have looked more than a few times and haven't seen any Elk. However, last night around 11pm you could hear some bugling going on. May take a trip up and try to get some pics and look for some new Grouse covers.

A big bull just wandered through, bugling like mad. He also was thrashing some of the tree branches. Their microphone must be really sensitive, I could see and hear the branch thrashing.

Kind of blurry tonight, must be raining up there.

Thanks Dale and Teeter, for the info on the fishers. Good to hear they seem to be expanding range. If there's a season I hope the trappers are getting a good price for them or if not a good price someone gets a cool mount. Way cool that the parent's neighbors got to see one even. Not many folks do.

I'm betting the timber companies are happy as the darn things like to eat "porky pines".

Think I'm going to check the cam and see if there's any bugling going on tonight.

There a bedded bull there now, looks like one side of the rack is 'different' but can't tell for sure. 6, maybe a small 7th on one side and the other side looks like the points are 'fishtailed'.

Good night all,

Yep, small Bull center stage now.

For any wondering about the road, that is probably on gated land not open to motor vehicles. Friend has a cousin who is a GW and he took us on a tour years back. We passed thru 3-4 locked gates to get to where they did some of their habitat work.

I trapped around that area you're asking about fishers in. I trapped mostly in potter county, some of mckean and elk county. Yes sir there are fishers in that area, bobcat and alot of yotes.

There was a spike laying there, the camera was zoomed in on him. I heard one bugle, the spike looked over his shoulder and quickly got up and moved off. A BIG one with a forest of points on his head had came in to chase the little one off.

There's still a couple there but at the outer range of the camera, you can't see them very clearly.

It's about 10:30 pm PA time. They must have an IR light on the camera. It's not moving and there's a cow feeding right in front of it. She seems nervous and might not be around long.

Back awhile, one Cow moved off into the wood and he left the others and was bugling to bring her back. Right now there is some serious bellowing going on.

2 bulls on there now. They touched antlers but no action beyond bugling. One has a couple cows with calves. The 2d one went off the camera but you can hear him in the distance.

They must have a motion detector on the camera to follow the movement. It almost seems like the bulls are wearing a sensor that attracts the camera.

I'm curious about the genetics here. The bulls have extra points that Rocky Mtn elk don't usually have. I've seen them in farm elk but not in the wild.

Would age have something to do with it? These bulls stand a better chance of growing old with the small allotment of tags and climate. Also they don't have wolves to deal with.

Thanks much and it would be fun to just get into some of your country. Who knows, maybe we can make it happen before it is too late.
