Lots of deals out there. They're even selling them without furniture. Prices keep going down. I'd hold tight. I have a feeling they'll start dumping even more soon at a lower price to generate money.....

Just as an example...I've seen dealer cost drop into the high $600's from a few distributors.

Is this considered a decent price for this model?

http://www.tombstonetactical.com/catalog/colt/clt-carbine-a3-m4-16.1-223-30r/

I'm looking at my first AR purchase so I'm not interested at this point in figuring out which handguard, buttstock, sights, etc I'd like to get, at what cost, etc. If I get into that kind of "loonyism" later down the road, I know I'll have plenty of options then.

Thanks for your help guys,

Geno

We all more than likely missed the good deal price Wally World had on them at $500 when they sold off everything considered to be tactical. By the time I heard about them they were sold out.

It is fore sure that both demand and prices are going down. They were once priced at $2000 right after Obama was elected the second time...

I'd say it's a pretty decent price. For sure you won't get hurt on buying one of those. I have two of those 6920's and I think it's the most for the least if you want a proven mil-spec rifle that will function well and retain its value.

so I have learned that a mid gassed gun with a 15 inch rail on it with a balance forward feeling is easier to shoot accurately holding it in your hands vs a carbine gassed gun with a short forearm..still want an extra 6920 however.

I got my 6920 MP versions for $1800 for the pair.

I don't mind spending extra for Colt anymore than spending extra for IMI ammo.

Hey Travis, I just checked all the live feeds I get for used. They're crazy. They all want more than current NIB. Stick with watching the emails and gun rags. my .02

Already seeing sub $500 off brands, I predict a market correction.

Travis,
Was it a Colt LEO 6920? If so, that's around $80-100 less than what I've been seeing.

Congrats. I think they are top-shelf. I bought one about a year ago from a buddy who was down on his luck and wanting to sell some stuff. I don't have quite twice that in it, but close. That's what they were selling for at Walmart at the time so...

I think you got an excellent buy. I guess they could get cheaper, but that's a good buy right now and they're just a solid-as-a-rock weapon.

I got my wife one of the 6920's when Wallyworld was dumping them cheap. She shot it with my spare eotech for a while then decided she didnt like the front sight.

Its now the bedroom gun and is superb in that role as she got lucky in the Dicks/ Troy debacle.

She went to buy new running shoes and came home with a Troy for $750 NIB. I traded the quad rail to a member her for the Alpha rail on it.

She's a fairly shrewd negotiator as somehow a few week ago she convinced a guy at the gun show to trade her a NIB Aimpoint CompM4 for her Eotech XPS.

Travis,
That was a good deal on the 6920. My favorite can of whup-ass.
You've probably got furniture and glass hanging around for it already, anyway.

Wouldn't mind finding one at that price. Eotech needs a new ride since the ACOG came along.

I wanted one of the tan Magpul edition 6920's that Walmart was selling at the time, but I decided to get my friend's instead. I ended up getting black Magpul furniture for it, which is how it sits now.

I find myself liking or using GB less and less.

I wish, I just bought one new from Sportsman's Warehouse like three weeks ago with magpul furniture 999.00. My first Colt, been wanting to try them.

If I can find one for the price your talking I'd buy another colt right now.

Sweet, I haven't sighted my new one in yet and I'm debating on doing that right now along with a new 22 or pheasant hunting. Plus I got two new pistols that need shooting as well.

That's the same rifle I got accept different furniture and those pics are encouraging, I hope mine shoots like yours.

I took your advice.

To hot for the pooch here today, my wife went as a spectator and was freaking out over the heat for the dog. She put the kabosh to it quickly; half hour like. So disgruntled, I took them all home and grabbed the new 22lr xt 22, S&w 9mm shield and bought this Friday along with shotgun Glock 20. I previously owned and sold the 29, but this 20 is a keeper. Shoots 180 grain hydra shocks like a wet dream. The Mrs. and myself shot the shield excellent as well. 22 shoots the remington golden boolits nicely at 50 steps.

Travis, I got an eotech on a DDXV the others I had got sold. What's a decent scope for these AR's??? I sold my bolt action not cause i wanted to i had to varmint guns and would like to use this for some varmints and yotes.

I didn't take it today, I decided to wait till I get some glass

you know I can see the OEM versions costing less without the furniture however I wonder if Colt is cutting corners on these guns now. That gun in Gainesville has me interested.

There were no corners cut on mine. Thing is flawless yo.

I think Colt is selling at an all time low. But they'll only sell dealers HUGE quantities of product.

Travis, I think you hit the nail on the head. Colt is having financial issues. What is the cornerstone of any business? CASH FLOW.

I popped a trifecta of Krypteks, spaced out over a period of a couple few days in between. The Magpul furniture is expensive by itself, $200-250. Word to the wise.

I just saw your question about tritiums. I'll just end up buying whatever Brownells has. The ones with the single dog in the front post and two dots on the A2 rear. I like 'em.

My local FFL said Colt will no longer allow retailers to buy one or two of their products. If you want to place an order for their AR's, it has to be substantial.

I assume he's telling the truth because he used to carry Colts all the time and has had nothing but love for them.

You'd better get a Katana for your kids while you're at it. Keeps the biters at a distance instead of having to get right up on them.

My LGS/FFL used to stock some Colts, too. As his business has grown, he's stocking more guns. However, he has moved away from Colts in AR choices for the same reason.

Flave .... what made you choose the A2 buttstock? I've been thinking similar for my 6920 and getting away from the Magpul.

Because the A2 level of cool matches my level of cool.

Also, butt stroking cannot be done proper with a janky collapsible type.

Last but not last, I crawl the stock with irons and like full stock. And this one is going to always wear irons.

I don't dig the flippin' yanking of facial hair with the magpul stock. I haven't had better luck with the mil-spec option either.

I like the A2's, too.. a lot. But, if somebody's trying to give me a $200-250 worth of camo furniture I'm guessing somebody's gonna want in exchange for me buying their brandy new Colt LE M4 for $760, yeah, I'll bite.

Truth is, all the T6's rattle that I've ever picked up, 4 or 6 position. Same with the Magpuls, far as I've ever seen. Makes the A2's start to look a lot better, especially if you're mounting anything larger than an ACOG, red dot, or holographic and shooting anything at distance.

I have always preferred them and have always wanted a regular HBAR. But when I found these without furniture I figured what's another $40 to swap the buffer tube.

I like it.

For those of you that prefer the A2 stock configuration, CDNN has the Colt HBAR2 Match Target models with the removable carry handle on sale for $799.00.
Sounds like a smokin deal to me on a new Colt AR-15

I'm thinking of picking up a spare AR-15 for Ranch useage. And I'm thinking this deal is hard to beat for the money, also.

jimmyp, sorry. I didn't see this earlier. No, they didn't cut any corners. It's a standard m4 with that Magpul kryptek camo furniture. Chrome lined barrel, 1:7 twist. Front iron sight. No rear. No carry handle.

Colt has no magic today though still very good........lots of equally good or better.

If you want the best, get KAC, period.

KAC = Knight's Armament Company

But, to be fair, they are 2x+ the price of a 6920.

IMO, as good or better: YMMV

Stag, Sig, Spikes, S&W, Noveske, Daniel Defense, LMT, RRA, Wilson, White Oak, to name a few recognized brands.

Some can be had for same or lower $$$ as a Colt, some are substantially more.

Guess it just depends on what you want to do with it & how much you want to pay.

The Stag 3G is a great buy.

MontanaMan, are you talking SR-15. KAC makes great rifles. I wouldn't mind having one. But, you're talking 3 times what a 6920 goes for.

To me and 4-5 or them IIRC Colt is always very very good functionally, it's a carbine gas IIRC, DD has some mid length gas guns, I like them. Noveske is good, uses FN barrels, had RRA and Bushmaster, RRA is just ok, bushmaster blows, never had a spikes but have 3 of their lowers. I have a stag 6.8 bolt it is good, my friend has a stag carbine, no problems. I am saving for another Colt I feel you should always have at least one Colt.

My Colts have never been anything but tough as nails and extremely accurate right out of the box.

And same as Flave, mine haven't failed ever. I put a real nice Leupold scope on the one recently, and it's hosted at least 3 other optics. Lots of rounds through it and NEVER burped. The other one currently wears an ACOG TA31F with a TA51 mount. Just emailed my gunnie on opinions for a new forend for that one this morning. Probably go MWI or Troy again.

yes and thank you I need to replace my 6720 that I traded for the DD M4V11.

Q. How many AR 15 should you have? A. One more than you have now.

Same applies to Glock 9mms in my neck of the woods.

I'm still in the market for an AR this year but new to all the terminology. What's the difference btwn "6920" and "6720" Colts?

The main difference is the barrel. The 6920 has the "stepped" M-4 type barrel whereas the 6720's is termed "lightweight" and is straight, about the same diameter as the flash hider.

Thanks, much appreciated.

No difference in the internals then, still mostly "mil -spec" stuff. Bolt carrier group and trigger parts?

A family member recently bought a new Colt 6920 MOE edition. He picked up a box of XM193 and that carbine was shooting that stuff very well.

Very tempting with all the good deals out there lately.

Man you bunch of enablers! I just made a trade deal on a NIB 6920 and I haven't even got to shoot the new PSA i bought last week. After reading a bunch of reviews here and other plcaes I figured having two ARs in the house, one being a Colt aint a bad thing at all.

Georgia Gun is out of the 6920's like I bought, but other sites have them. I also saw a couple sites with 6920's with Kryptek Bounty Hunter furniture for $744-755. One had free shipping.

Also interested in a 6920...my dealer here has them in stock for a G. I guess it's the "standard" version with collapsible stock and magpul flip up sights...I think he might wiggle a little tho. See a fair amount of deals that will beat that but I gotta have the CA legal with bullet button and most of the big distributors don't carry those.

Certifiable, Can't say for sure if these guys can help with the bullet button nonsense, but here's a link for another one I picked up today. If they would do it for maybe a C or less, you'd still be way ahead. Best deal so far. $744 + $12.95 shipping. Buyin cheap and stackin deep.

Thanks LD, I'll holler at them and see if it's doable..
I used to never be interested in the little shorty AR's, but all this chatter has got me thinking it might be time to expand my horizons.

If anybody has anything else to say about the colts in comparison to some of the other comparable factory offerings (ruger,stag,etc..) and wants to share I'm all ears. I own a DPMS and a stag 6 and love them, but something tells me I should own a Colt..

Certifiable, go Colt now. There's not a reason not to at this price. They're practically giving them away. I paid a heckuva lot more for my others.

Took the time to work on load development this weekend.

I loaded 10 with LC brass, Remington 7 1/2's, 75gr Hornady BTHP's and 25.0gr's of CFE223. They shot great at the 100 so I loaded 50 more.

Load development complete. Sun was brutal out there so the pics are kinda schitty. It's a 3 1/4" blade for reference.

3 at the 250.

[Linked Image]

3 more at the 320.

That's two at the tip and one over the serrations.

[Linked Image]

Haven't ran A2 sights in a long time and I'm looking forward to this summer and shooting this thing. Only thing wrong with my dope was I was about two clicks left. Will run it out to the 4 and 5 next then it's time to fire up the Dillon.

I'm not all that impressed with CFE. I just have 8lbs of it and want to use it up.

I've only tried CFE 223 with 64gr BSB and they did so-so. I got a few lbs. left and want to try something different. Right now I'm mass-producing 77 TMK bullets with 24gr TAC. Great combo.

Just checked Georgia and Sportsman and they've got the LE6920's for 760 and 819.00 respectively. Sportsman offers free shipping, not sure about Georgia. They're both TOOS though.

That's pretty nice. You can always add brick veneer to the front. Remember to keep the grass trimmed to conform to your homeowner's association's covenant and just to not piss the neighbors off and lower everybody's property values. Go along to get along, I always say.

Personally, I think that Birdwatching Station that the militia took over in Oregon looks pretty damned livable. Gots a sweet deck. It would make a fine backdrop for gun pics there I expect. But I wouldn't live in Oregon.

I had always wanted a Colt until I got one....I kept it about 5 Days!! I just could not get over the crappy Machining...The worst I have ever seen on a AR it looked like the parts where beat with a hammer before the Anodizing was applied and the mag well looked like it was cut with a grinder...I am pretty sure it would function perfect Though...It is pretty bad when 40 dollar uppers and lowers from Anderson have better machining.. The good news I didn't lose a penny on the deal. crazy

I have 6 currently and 3 others I've owned and sold and never seen anything like that or heard of any like that. For the money, I don't think you can beat them for a hard use utility rifle.

I picked up a triple while they were on sale. I did get one dud from Georgia Gun that the upper receiver was already scratched up. I refused it and sent it back. The owner was acting kinda pissy about it, but saw and did the right thing in the end. I think he just really couldn't believe I was actually sending it back, while they were selling like hotcakes.

That surprises me too. Honest to goodness, there was a time when I could tell a Colt from 20 feet just by the finish. They were that much better looking than everything thing else.

Mine also is one of the best finished and fitting AR's I have. So far I have shot 2 mags through it, cleaned it, and put it away.

I looked at a 6721 yesterday. It had a very nice finish, I must have got a Monday or Friday built 6920. I am going to pick the 6721 up this afternoon.

My 10 year old Colts are still the cat's ass, as far as I'm concerned. Didn't see anything with the new ones I bought recently to make me think otherwise, either.

Agreed. The Colt rifles I owned in the mid-90s weren't nearly as nice as my current Colt rifles.
