I want to use it on the 24HCF pig hunt, I worked up a load with Barnes 50 gr.TTSX in my new Ruger .222

Max load of TAC-24.4 grains

COAL: 2.13...gives it a little jump.

I tried a little less jump, but its a Barnes.....

First try shot well into .75, as did the second and third. Velocity is right at 3100 fps.

Good to Go! grin

TAC was the answer for the Barnes in my .223AI too...thanks to John B.!!

I don't know, it might bounce off.

I didn't think you could kill pigs with anything smaller then a .223AI?

That's generally true for plebeian rifles, but the coolness of the Ruger 1A gives it a 23% lethality premium. whistle

Glad you are pioneering stunt shooting for all of us Ingwe, what with the 50 grain barnes and planting them in pigs. I'm still stuck in the dark ages whacking deer with 4198 and 55 grain hornadys or NBTs out of my rem 660.

Shine on you crazy diamond....

Is your 660 a .222?

If so, I bow to your prowess.....humbly....

Ingwe

Hunts had to go naughty with it, didn't he?

Indeed my 660 is a good old 1 in 14 twisted Deuce.
I'm pretty sure your new No. 1 with some monos is cool enough to allow you to keep the title of the grand poobah of stunt shooters.

I think Hunts has a 600 or 660 sans the fugly stock in a Deuce too. Maybe he will stop being a cyberbully and go shoot a bunny with it and hang a pic

He has one bunny in his freezer and he gets it out and photos it with different guns every day.

I have that on good authority.

If you've been shooting stuff with the 55 grain Horns, you are the preferred stunt shooter...I use monos to eliminate any "ifs" in my little brain.
That said, the only times Ive used a 55 horn on something big, performance was flawless.

Anyway...gonna try to get a bunny with the#1 next week... grin

Pat pretty well sums up what can be done with a 55 grain Hornady in the right place. They do the trick on about everything in my neck of the woods.

This year I want to try out some 70 grain Tsx's in my 223 AI.
I picked up some for a good price and they are really shooting great at 3050 fps.Should be good for the raking shots, grin...

If you are new to TSXs or TTSXs you will find that you don't need the heavier bullets. Ive never had a raking shot but basic broadsides, and have only recovered two bullets from this line-up ( on 53 animals...) Both were 53 gr TSX.....also used the 50 and 55TTSX....havent 'caught' one of them yet.
Speed is your friend with the mono metals...so if you aren't completely happy with the 70s ( I'll bet you will be though....) don't hesitate to step down in weight.

I've used the 53 and 55 tsx's and been really happy with them. I happened upon a good deal on the 70 grainers and thoughtI'd give them a whirl. I was kidding about the raking shots, honestly I wait for broadside or slightly quartering or I pass on the shot.

Can you tell much difference in performance between the tipped version and the old tsx?

I don't think a 222 can kill pigs.

Could never tell any difference between the two...but switched to TTSX after a few people here whom I trust, JB included, had a failure to open with the TSX. No one has ever complained about that with the TTSX....so what the hell.
