I'm beginning the search for a 350 Remington Magnum. Based on your experiences, which one of the many Remington versions, or ruger versions is the best to look for? Based on my research, the Rugers have a longer mag box, albeit slightly, that allows use of the heavier bullets, if desired. I'm not a huge fan of the vent rib Remington models, but at the right price, I guess I could live with one. Best case scenario, I find a decent priced KS custom shop model 7. How hard are those to come by, without selling a kidney? Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I drop the cash!

I'm partial to the Ruger all weather 350 rem mag. Can't find a tougher hunting rifle and if mine is indication, they tend to shoot.



350 fans tend to hang on to them, so good luck finding one. The other option is if you find a good deal on a WSM rifle, it's just a barrel job.

I've not had a Ruger, only 2 remingtons. Never had an issue with the length of the mag box for what I wanted to shoot.

I had one of the model 673's. I have nothing bad to say about it, the vent rib didn't bother me at all. I shot 220 Speers out of that rifle. Took deer out to 250 yds or so, no problem. It was quite the hammer.

After owning previous rifle for several years I decided I liked the 350 so much I might as well have 2. I came across a gently used Remington 700 Classic. I did the unthinkable and took it to my smith and had 2" cut off the barrel, had a fiber optic front sight put back on the front, complete with hood. It wears a Leupold 2-7 Ultra lite. I shoot 225 Sierra game kings out of this one, they put elk in the dirt, quick. I also found some old Herters 250 gr RN, they are way shorter than the Hornady version. I haven't killed anything with them yet.
With the 20" barrel my 350 is a great dark timber elk rifle, though I wouldn't be afraid to shoot one out to 400 yds. Anything past that I wouldn't be comfortable with this rifle.

the 225 gr nosler is good for anything on this side of the pond. in and out on my bear. deer just fold, never had one move from the hit.

my rem 600 is a tack driver with 200gr corelok factory loads. only problem is it smacks me in the cheek pretty hard but its not a plinker. it devastates whitetail. literally pulverizes the front ends.

I had the Remington Custom Shop Mannlicher in 350 Rem Mag. Great little rifle...you can find them lightly used in the $1,250-$1,400 range.

Any input on the 673s? Might have found one of those to deal on.

Yes, heavy and ugly. While 600s and 660s weren't pretty they were easy to carry. The 660s were better they had heaver barrel and no stupid vent rib.

Its a Model Seven action. Nice feeling stock. Mine was topped with a 1.5-5 Leupy, great combination.

I probably should have kept it, but I liked my Model 700 classic a little bit more and had to thin the herd a few years back and it was unfortunately one of them.


Also, being as its a model Seven the stock options are vast, if you don't care for the laminate.

My 673 shot very accurately, as every other .358 caliber I have owned.

Take off the vent rib, ad filler screws and a synthetic stock? That'd probably lighten it up a pound or so, no?

I had one for a time. Surprisingly accurate, about as ugly as a mud fence. As Slavek noted, they are pretty hefty but it aids in soaking up recoil if you decide to load up heavies.

I always referred to the Remington 673 as a "Model 7 in a clown suit"

I've had a couple of these. WAY prefer the Ruger Mk II. Rugers shoot better and are lighter and handier.

I have a Rem Custom Shop KS Mod 7. It is an amazing tack driver despite that thin barrel. Right now I am using 200 gr TSX's with TAC. The short magazine can be a pain in the ass to deal with if you are looking to use plastic tip bullets of at least 200 grains. In other words, forget Accubonds and TTSX's.

I have a 673. It's no heavier then the average sporter. I much prefer it's 22 inch barrel length to the 600's 18.5 inch barrel. Much more muzzle blast on one that short. 20 or 22 is about optimum in a .350 in my opinion. I can live without the raised rib but given it's positive points it works for me. It really thumps black bears.

I had a Ruger All Weather and while it was accurate it fed like crap. I did not want to fiddle with it so down the road it went. My Whelen's remain.

I own a custom 350 with 20" barrel on 600 action with a Kevlar stock, I love it. It shoots like a varmint rifle several loads less than 1/2 inch groups at 100 Meters.

To buy something off the shelf -- I think the 700 Classic in 350 RM would be very nice. Only thing I'd do to one would be to free float the barrel and glass the action. If you live in Alaska and/or carry it in the rain a lot, I add a fiber glass or Kevlar stock.

I use car wax on my blued steel rifles in inclement weather.

How much do you gain with the wsm version over the rem mag?

WSM should be close to a 358 Norma, so either additional 200 fps, or 25 gr more bullet at the same speed.

I'd planned on re-chambering my 350 rem mag Ruger, but really didn't want the added recoil as I figure a 225 tsx @ ~2700 fps will provide all the killing and range I need from a 350 rem mag.

yes, 458 Lott is right on. I am getting ~3000 fps from 200 gr. TSXs. my 350 WSM has a 22" barrel and is based on the slightly longer 7mm WSM instead of the .300/.325 WSM (it was a rebore of a 7mm WSM M70). this also gives me about 3" of magazine length. the picture shows bullets seated to fit the magazines of the M70 vs. M7 rifles.

Redding had dies in stock when I called.

I have two 350's in a model 7 and model 700. I don't have mag issues and shoot the 200 TTSX no problem.

I have seated and shot the NP 250 and the Swift 280 grain with no problems either.

I have one of the 700 Classics that I put a cheapy SPS stock on it as I was planning on taking it back to Alaska this fall but plans fell through. I'd be willing to sell it if you're interested.

Mine is a Ruger with a Rhino Cam McMillian. The magazine box is 2.9 so you can load a little longer. I load 200 TTSX to 2.88 COL. Still don't know if that is long enough for the 200 Accubond. Nosler says the ogive won't work in a 350 Rem Mag box.

This is an MRC action in .350 RM from their initial run. Douglas barrel, McSwirly chambered, and assembled by Mickey Coleman. It's a nice shooter. Not intended to be lightweight at all, but with full power 250 grain Partitions, that helps felt recoil a bit. I like the longer OAL with these actions too. 3.1"ish.

I have a couple 350s. For all round use the Ruger is the way to go. The extra mag length has obvious advantages with heavies but also found it a great advantage with Barnes 180 TTSXs.

The barnes would need to be seated below the ogive to bring them under 2.800 in turn the bullet would not hold in the case. Could cut the necks down and be ok but would eat up as much powder space as a 225. Loaded out to 2.89 over TAC and I am pushing just over 3000 FPS. Hell of a whitetail combo and shoots within fractions of an inch as flat as 140 grain 7mm08 out to 350 yards.

Only issue I had was feeding. Ruger took care of it all on their dime. Now the slickest feeding rifle I own.

Other rifle I have is a Rem 7 mannlicher from the custom shop. Very nice handy rifle. Shoots barnes 200 grain TSX around 2700 FPS. Got it setup with a low power scope. Close range thumper that will get the job done out to 250 yards or so. But more intended for under 150 work.

Of the two I would keep the Ruger if I had to choose. Will run anything you could ever want to in a 350. Much more accurate with a wider range of loads than the remington.Being the all weather version it will handle way harder use or abuse. Also a little more confident in Ruger when it comes to customer service should it ever be needed.

Curious what your COAL is when loading for the mod 7? I can't fathom how the mouth is not on the ogive for the 200 TTSX. Do you have any pics of loaded rounds for the 200 TTSX, NP 250 and the 280 Swift?

I can't load past 2.80". That said, I have used the 225 Woodleighs because of the RNSP geometry.

There were two Remington Model 7, Mannlicher stocked 350's on Gunbroker this afternoon. One was a bit steep, the other a little better.

I have two 350's, one a 700 Classic, the other a Custom Shop model but I don't have a Mannlicherr stocked version. I DO have a 222 Rem, Mannlicher version and the first 3 shot group I shot with factory loads was about 1/3". It may not be the most accurate rifle I own but it's right up there, especially with handloads.

Well, I ended up snagging the 700 classic in the classifieds here. Anyone have any leads on brass n bullets at a decent price?

If you want some factory stuff to start Midway has the nosler custom 225 partition ammo in stock. Pretty good.

I've had two .350's, a Remington 700 Classic and Ruger 77 Mark II blued-and-walnut. Just like other people have mentioned, the Ruger's feeding sucked, and it took an afternoon of my time to make it work right. Even then it didn't feed nearly as smoothly as the 700. Cen't recall if the Ruger magazine was enough longer to make any difference.

Hmmm, do they use nosler head stamp brass for that?

Or you can do what I did. Buy T/C encore frame order custom 350 barrel. I got mine from MGM. Very accurate and handy. With the encore I have a 26" heavy factory contour and it's not much longer than my model 7.

That's what I've been using in my 673. At least once a year it goes on sale which makes it a little more palettable. With it the rifle shoots into .50 - .75 pretty consistently and I'm only trying to sight it in to go hunting. The darn thing has ended up being one of the most accurate rifles I own.

A 350 Rem Mag is a very simple rebarrel and you need nothing other than a 243 or 308 on an Ruger 77 to make it happen. I did the 375-350 Rem Mag (via PacNor) on a 243 M77. They opened the bolt face and screwed a .375 barrel on it. It feeds great and shoots MOA. The barrel could have been one contour lighter, but it handles well and isn't bad to shoot either.

You must get some smokin' velocities from that 26" barrel and being able to load long...have you chronographed anything?

With ramshot tac and the 200 gr barnes tsx I clocked it in the low 2900's the accuracy just wasn't there. This barrel likes to be in the 2650 range with 225's and 2750 with the 200's. Reloader 17 has worked best. While I have loaded long with longer bullets like the accubond the rifle just likes the shorter bullets seated around 3.0".

Love those 660's. I just found a pretty mint .308. To me a 20 inch barrel is about right for a .350.

That .350 WSM looks like the business.

What's the OAL?

Still have mine. It is definitely a keeper. Found it several years ago on gunbroker. Just have to be diligent and keep looking every few days. They pop up every now and then. Keep an eye out for ammo as well. It seems to be scarce.

My favorite hunting rifle is a 7KS that firearms44 found for me very cheap...

Was helping two friends on a moose hunt in Maine this week. Was doing a lot of driving around with the father of one of the hunters who is a few years older than me... Turns out his favorite big game rifle is the Model 660 in .350 and 6.5...he still has the new ones he bought in each caliber about 1970...

I have a Montana Rifle Co. bolt gun with a 22" barrel that I load so that the base of the bullet is at the base of the neck. With Winchester 748 and the 200 grain AccuBond was getting in the 2900s and 2750 from the 250 Speer I believe...both ran about moa... I have some 275 Swift A-Frame but have not tried them yet...

Really with a .35 all you need is a 220/225 at 2600 to get anything that needs to be on the ground there...

...as far as I know Ruger never made any....or did I miss something. The original Flat Bolt guns were all blue/walnut... The later 77/MKII were in blue/walnut and stainless/synthetic but long after the BP stock was discontinued.

A stainless 77/MKII will however drop right into a BP stock. So if you can find a rifle and a stock you can do some swapping...

I have seen one at a gun how when I was broke, and almost had a deal to trade my 08 boat paddle for one here a few years back. I cannot be sure they were not swapped stocks though, so...

finding a short action stock with magnum bbl channel is the problem with making my own. there was a SS MKII barreled action for sale here a week or so ago, but without the stock, I'd really have little need, since I have a few .350s already.

Good luck on your .350. They are great rifles, I have a model 7KS and it is probably my favorite. What one of the other posts said about Midway putting the 225 partition loads on sale once a year is correct, a bit pricey but can handle about anything you may want to kill with it.

toad....unless it is a Lite Rifle stock I think any SA stock will fit. I bought one from firearms44 and it will fit the .350 or the .308 or .358 Frontier.. I have it on the .308...

hmm. I did not know that. I thought the SA boat paddles had magnum and sporter barrel profiles.

So far I've rounded up 200 200gr hornady ftx, 200 225gr partitions, and 100 220gr speers, 100pcs new brass, and a lb of RL-15 for less that what it would cost me to buy 2 boxes of the factory nosler ammo. I just need the gun to get here so I can load up some rounds n hit the range!
