These were bought 3-4 years ago when I was doing load development for the round. I had a handful left and since they shoot to the same POI as the 400 grain Woodleighs I thought I'd use them. I did not recover the bullet. I may find it Friday when I cut and wrap the meat or it may be in the gut pile.
Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

Mart, nice job on the moose, thanks for the post and story. PM coming, I have a number of questions for you about the 400 Whelen, no hurry, would appreciate some info when you find the time.
"The day I went to work everybody showed up to watch Johnny Luster work. Well, they had a wheelbarrow there, and said I was to push that thing around all day. I looked at it, then turned around and headed for the mountians..."

Cool round! Congrats.
Every year I look in the app book for tag applications and your Parks and Wildlife makes that book so damn confusing to a NR, I have YET to be able to find the right code for ATV tags. LOL.
We do the same. Will use the ATV to go get it if possible. And to get to camp.
All the other idiots do is move em around and force us to walk further and further in search on foot. I refuse to follow their swamp trails destroying things...
nails and boards have come to mind... but I digress.
I will have to think though, if I do find and ATV tag code, can I utilize it after I harvest it or will it go to waste.....
PS THS is not at all what I want, but like you did, I've done it a couple of times in situations... and I"ve seen less wasted meat than busting shoulder blades and spine, obviously speed and bullet choice come into play too....
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

I should have put a smiley there...
But I still haven't found the ATV tag hunt number...
I've done CO a number of times over the years, it was a bugger last time, but then we were sqare in the middle of Eagles Nest Wilderness so it wasn't so bad. LOL.

Good job Mart. That iron sighted .400 Whelen certainly has the cool factor going for it. Hope to take my new fangled .35 Whelen (M70 classic s/s McEdge) out for a spin or two later this fall.

How many pounds of boned out meat would you say that you got from her?
If it was easy, everybody would do it.

We cut and wrapped it ourselves and I didn't weigh the packages, but I sure I'd be pretty close with an estimate at 275-300 pounds. We did a lot of steaks, roasts, stew meat for canning and the rest (60-70 pounds) will go to our processor to be made into breakfast and polish sausage. We still have a fir amount of hamburger left from the cow my wife got two years ago.
