I happened across a set of dies and 16” AR15 barrel in .277 Wolverine. It seems be be a prety neat little round. Its basically a 5.56 necked up to .277 and shortened. SImilar concept to the 300 BLK. Unlike the 6.8 SPC is uses standard 5.56 brass, magazines and boltface and are a number of good 277 bullets designed for the 6.8 SPC that will work very well with the wolverine.

I think it will work very well as a no/low recoil round for my daughter to use for deer and caribou. The 90gr Nosler bonded @ 2600+ fps should do well out to 200 yards. If it works out I might even put together a light compact little bolt gun on one of those brownells model 7s that their selling for $199.

Anybody with any real world experience with the wolverine? Realistic velocities out of 16-20” barrels?

Never heard of it before. But, a quick google search turns up a number of hits for available parts and pieces. Interesting round. Thanks for posting. Good luck with your build.

The guy who created it is a regular poster over on 68Forums. Nice guy, just a rifle loony who started doing his own thing. Tons of info there, and most of the users hang out there. Down to earth, and a pleasure to interact with.

I put together an upper with the 277 barrel last weekend. Topped it with a nikon 1.5-6 M300BLK scope and took it to the range. It initially wasn’t functioning quite right and wasn’t lockup open on an empty mag, a ligther buffer weight fixed that problem.

Getting right at 2500fps with 110gr V-max and very good accuracy. I think with a little more playing around with and maybe stepping up to a 100gr accubond, or one of the barnes bullets it will make a decent rifle for my daughter to hunt with.
