That would do for me. Still looking for a 60 plus. It will happen one year.. been a couple around camp every fall so far... just no dice on a clean shot. And generally seen before NR season opens so the locals have already failed and spooked them.

Now you have to pack em out in quarters. No de-boning.

What's a moose's leg bones weigh, anyways?

Gotta be a lot.

I want to say about 15 lbs if you left the lower legs in the field.

Depends on what unit you're hunting.

I always said when I shot one over 65 I would do a shoulder mount, didn't happen although I shot some nice looking ones 55-60. Funny though, and I'm sure you know this Jeff, that just like any other antlered game there are some ugly horned 60 inchers and some really good looking 60 inchers....but I hear what you're saying. Kind of the magic number.

It'll happen one day for ya!!!

The leg bones alone add basically one pack trip to any haul. A number of areas also require carrying the ribs intact. The ribs alone, of a mature bull, make another very hearty load.

A fellow would have to be a masochistic horse to attempt to remove a good moose in a half-dozen pack loads or less.

Like I said, the less weight the better. I'd pass on the extra trip every time if I could.

338 win mag, 250 partition loaded to nearly 2800 fps chrono'ed.

The spread was a bit over 53" my taxidermist said it was the largest set that he'd ever seen that wasn't over 60". I mounted just the antlers and they are heavy enough that a framing nail will not hold them.

Yes I hear ya. I have my 51 from last year that has good points... I saw a couple of 55-60 inchers on that trip home that were flat ugly to me...

Just like deer or anything else. I"m not all about spread at all though, but a good eating one is probably high on the list, if not highest when we are allowed to shoot the eaters in the future. LOL.

I just got done working off the three bones in a mature bull's front leg, the scapula, humerus, and radius. Together, cut clean of virtually all meat, tendons, and other connective tissues, the three bones came in at 15 pounds or just a hair over on a bathroom scale. The hind leg has only two in the "quarter" when the required portions are removed from the field. However, they are both bigger and heavier than the bones in the front legs. 50-60 pounds, perhaps more since there is considerable mass in the connective tissues that probably get left when meat is boned in the field, is in the leg bones alone.

That's a rather impressive load...what powder did you get that speed out of?
