Was out shooting dove over the labor day weekend and I enjoy using my Mossberg 500 4/10. I had two old boxes of Win. ammo, 1 old box of Remington and 3 boxes of Herters that I bought recently from Cabelas. Was having fun until I started shooting the Herters ammo. Darn near 50% of them separated leaving me with plastic in the chamber. I got pretty quick at pulling the barrel and yanking out the plastic with needle nose pliers. BUT dang it was frustrating. Anyone ever have this problem? Not a single Win or Rem shell did this, by the way.

Sounds like when they were built they didn't get a good bond between the case and the so called brass.
Have a 1100 in 20 that does the same thing but with shells that have been loaded many times.

Yup, gotta be bad QA/QC on that batch of hulls. I'm very sure They are not made by Herters, any idea of the make? Nothing on the box or head stamps? Cat
scopes are cool, but slings 'n' irons RULE!

We can't see into the base of the brass, I'll assume that there a plastic base to that hull and these are not reloads.
It appears that the plastic is very thin in the corner and it is either a poor design (not thick enough) or an injection issue when they were made where the plastic was not at the correct temperature.
Either way I would return them to Cabela's.
Another possibility (less likely) is that you have a sticky chamber and if this is a automatic is that it is just ripping it apart.
If these are reloads, then it likely that these have been loaded two many times and the base has burn through (cheap plastic).

take them back. use the money to buy good shells, Rem or Win.
Ammo is the cheapest part of a hunting trip, so use good stuff.

Hope this is an isolated incident as I've had good luck with the Herters shotshells from Cabelas. Last fall they had 12,16, and 20ga pheasant loads on sale for $7 a box. We killed the heck out of the SD roosters with no issues with them.
