So the six antelope we got in WY this year were on BFE sage and typically lean & mean.

The seventh was a Utah depredation tag and her feet probably never touched anything but alfalfa. (This guy's got 8,000 acres of alfalfa pivots and 12,000 acres of pasture. I like to apply for these tags to scope out falconry access more than anything -- and it worked! We spent about 3.5 minutes shooting an antelope and about 2 hours having him show me where all the hawks hang out grin )

at any rate, I've shot well over a hundred game animals now and have never seen anything even close to this degree of marbling in a "wild" animal

I'm not even sure I'd have too cook that!

Did Utah ever change their policy on only having 1 pronghorn tag per year?

That looks fantastic! I've yet to try pronghorn, but I definitely wouldn't say no to a steak grilled from one of those cuts.

I've been building up points to go on my first pronghorn hunt. I thought I had a good shot this year, but no dice. What areas do you favor? Or what area do you recommend for a 1st timer?

In Utah, I've mostly hunted around Snowville (private) , Randolph (public & private), Deseret , and the public land refuge just north of Deseret.

Don't know anything at all really, about the southern units

Hmmm, okay. While I live in the northern part of the state, I'm more familiar with hunting the southern part.

Thanks.

Though I think we might be talking semantics, but what refuge is just north of Deseret?

I can't for the life of me remember the name of it.

it's just NE of UT-16 , sandwiched between Deseret and Woodruff narrows reservoir

Lots of corn and soy bean fed whitetails in Nebraska have well marbled meat. The January antlerless season produces, IMO, the best tasting venison. The rut is a month or more in the past, so the bucks aren't chasing does in an effort to breed.

Dang, Matt!

My rodeo roping steer wasn't marbled like that! He was fattened up on hay and COB too.

Wow Utah, that is something! Gonna be incredible eating.

Best game meat I've ever had was a pronghorn mostly feeding on alfalfa.

So after cooking some of each of them post the taste comparison back here.

Will be interesting to say the least.

Know it well. Semantics confused me (us?). I killed sagebrush on that piece of ground using cattle. Was a neat little experiment I ginned up with the DWR and a local rancher.
