Quite a few people have e-mailed or called Eileen asking about the progress of THE BIG BOOK OF GUN GACK: A Hunter's Guide to Handloading Smokeless Rifle Cartridges. The printer notified us that we will have copies later this month.

A place for pre-orders will be up on riflesandrecipes.com as soon as we know the printing/shipping costs to us, but we do know it will be around $30 shipped. It's a big book, about the size of a GUN DIGEST.

elkhunter,

There's a section in the front with chapters on various aspects of handloading, such as sizing cases straight, plus chapters on the details of components.

Then there are chapters on loading different rounds, most on just one cartridge but some including several, such as the one on the three factory .17-caliber centerfires. There's some history on each cartridge, often involving how it's handloaded. The data often contains results from several rifles, not just a pressure barrel. All together right around 60 cartridges are included from the .17 Hornady Hornet to the .416 Rigby.

In the rear there's a list of manufacturers of various products, a couple of appendices including fairly easy formulas for figuring potential velocity and recoil, and an index.

the rumor I heard around here is that Ingwe put the kybosh on that chapter so John would have more room for the 7x57 chapter. grin

I'm interested in the chapter on the 35 Whelen Ackley.

Seriously, I'm interested in this book. I don't have any magazine subscriptions anymore, and I enjoy reading John's writing.

John,

I'll be ordering one anyway as there is sure to be chapters on 9.3's, 6.5x55, and .303 (I hope).

Do I hold out hope for a chapter on the ".25 super hornet" (AKA .256 Win Mag)?

Thanks, I've been thinking I need a reloading book to ponder this winter!
