I bought a very pretty rifle - the stock raps me a bit under the cheek bone. It's only a 30-06, so my question is - Is my scope mounted a bit high, or a bit too low?

Without a pic of the rifle,gonna say the scope.
Is the stock a "classic" or "monte carlo?"

Given that a rifle without a scope can do that, I'd be having a look at the stock first. The sort of stock apt to do it to me is one with a fair bit of drop at heel and a narrow comb. The drop means that it tends to cause more jump, as the line of the bore is a good deal above the middle of the buttplate, and a narrow comb concentrates the jolt on the cheekbone. I've experienced it with old-fashioned American stocks and with European hogsbacks.
Of course, your personal dimensions may well be different to mine, but that is where I'd start looking.
What sort of rifle is it? A photo of the offender would help.

While the height and shape of the comb, plus the height of the scope, have a lot to do with it, a rarely discussed stock dimension can cause the same "bite." Pitch is essentially the angle of the end of the butt, and the wrong pitch can also cause the comb to rise into your face, due to the bottom of the buttplate or buttpad putting more pressure on your shoulder than the top of the plate/pad.
A length of pull that's too long or too short can also result in cheek bite.

I'm going to compare dimensions with my #1 (which is very comfortable) to find differences.
