I've owned one Ruger. It had to go back to the factory as it would not chamber rounds from the mag. It also responded well to a lighter trigger, bedding, etc., and turned into a nice rifle.
My one Kimber required nothing. But I still bedded it, adjusted the trigger down and so on. I like tinkering so it doesn't bother me. Sending the other rifle back bothered me.

My experience with the lug and its bottoming out is that it doesn't. Putting a small piece of putty in the bottom of the lug recess showed that there is no bottoming out. There was about 1/8" gap between the bottom of the lug and the lug recess.

my rugers all need trigger tweaks or triggers replaced.

my Rugers are also 2# heavier than my Kimbers.

I chuckle every time posts like yours pop up...

I've only owned a single Ruger that didn't need work to get it to shoot. That is my 77 Magnum in 375 H&H. Every other 77/Hawkeye needs something, and in most cases, more than one something.

Same with the 15 or so Kimber Montanas I have owned. Not a one of them was tinkered with, other than my trigger weight preference, and all were and are tack drivers.

People hollering about how accurate their Ruger's are is making me chuckle.

Had 5 of them and they were consistently behind Brownings, Sakos and even most poorly assembled, early 90's model 700's as far as accuracy was concerned.

Not a bad rifle, accurate enough and I'm certainly not knocking them, but they're down the list when discussing accurate factory rifles.

Very dependable though.

M77 Hawkeye, 280 Rem: MOA

M77 Hawkeye, 35 Whelen: sub MOA
M77 MK11, 350 Rem Mag: MOA
M77 Hawkeye Compact: 1.5 in @100 yards.
All straight out of the box, factory ammo.
I must be one lucky SOB to get such consistent results throughout the years.

Most of the new ones I've seen don't share the same issues as the older Montana's. In fact, the mag boxes on the first few I checked had been ground down at the factory. There was no finish on the bottom of the protrusions. The metal was shiny silver and you could see they'd been ground a bit.

I still think the binding mag box was the biggest issue with these rifles.

I enjoy handguns and I really like shotguns,...but I love rifles!
