A fairly wide test/review of corelokt bullet performance in the current Guns and Ammo. The results to my mind indicate why they have provided good results on thin skinned game for so many hunters over the years.

I have used many in 6mm and 277 with excellent performance.
Actually the 277s I have and use are a little stouter than H interlocks.

They're great for fire forming.

Current Corelokts are not anything like the older versions. At least that's been my experience. All I know is the original 180gr 30.06 bullet was/is a classic and the newer versions aren't. I'll try to find the G&A article, maybe I'll learn something.

What weight .277 are you using Jerry? I've killed a couple of deer with the 130s but never tried the 150s.

All the deer I've shot with the 270 Clks have been 130s. I don't have a head count but it's ALOT. Actually I've probably killed more deer with 270s and 130 gr bullets than any other 'caliber'.

That's several diff rifles over 40+ yrs of deer hunting.

I've used Horn 130 Ilks almost as much as Rems and the Rem Clks always expanded less than the Hornadys. The vast majority of shots have been RIB/lung shots.
The exits holes are smaller than with Horn 130 Ilks.

Since 2012 I've been hunting private property w/o permission to hunt the adjoining properties. SOOO I've been shooting the scapula, CNS, to prevent a deer crossing a fence before expiring.

I've shot the 150s but have not killed any deer with them. The 130s have done so well I don't need the xtra wt or less expansion.

I have total confidence in the Rem and Horn 130s for WT deer hunting.

Always worked perfect for me. As I understand, they've changed things up a few years ago and the change was not perceived as for the better.

I have heard/read the same thing. The tests would suggest that the pen reforms fe has not suffered. In the test expansion ran to an avg of 2x original diameter and weight retention was from mid 60% to about low 80% and an avgnof 75%. Especially interesting is the comparison of the sp selection vs RN samples.

Core-lokts and Interlocks are generally equivalent in many respects. Though I generally choose other bullets, I like the SP (flat based) Interlocks in certain cartridges and applications, while I like the RN Core-lokts in others.

On a most recent hunt, my partner had the shot when the moose we were teasing finally arrived in a huff. While I don't know how his second bullet strayed so far, it contacted both of the rear long leg bones above the 'heel', shattering both of them completely. Those big bones will often defeat a cup and core of any flavor after contacting one. The 175 SP Core-lokt he was shooting in his 7 Rem Mag broke both and left hardly a trace in the wounds. Quite probably it had also struck a woody stem before contacting either as well.
