Right-o. I'll blast them at each turn and hope I can stop one or two from spending thier money with Kimber.

There is a difference between a white knight making a point to Kimber and $h!t'ing on others for buying a Kimber.

I bought this .257 from a relative. So far it seems pretty good. I might try to blood it next month.

Between a friend and myself we just got 3 Montanas in. If they need or we choose to rebarrel it's still cheaper than building a stainless 700 or 70.

I have nothing against the tikka but if you really like the way the montana feels the tikka can't compare. A built 700 can be close but it will cost as much or more....likely more.

Ummmm. No, not the case.

I bought a SS 700 from Dicks for $429. And had it built to my liking in .280 Rem, with a Mickey stock. Came in WELL under what a Kimber and a barrel would cost.

Lol he's comparing a kimber and a barrel to what a factory 700 and a stock cost.....come on man you're smarter than that. I said rebarreling a kimber is cheaper than "building" a 700. Dropping your 700 you bought on a great sale in a stock isn't building a 700.....haha

I don't know. What does a Kimber montana cost? $1100?

Now a $400 Walmart rem 700, a $500-600 Mcmillan stock, That is already $100-200 cheaper, and since they are both getting new tubes, that would be a push on rebarrel price.

I guess you could use the $200 bucks for a new jewel trigger, or something cheaper like a rifle basix.

I've a 223 setting in bedding now. I wanted it for the truck horse and let kids shoot. I believe it'll be perfect for us. I could see having a 223 243 and 708/308 Montanas.

I have been looking at a few Montanas myself. I saw a new 7-08 at the LGS the other day. Kind of wanting a 223 or a 243 though.

I have a 243, 257 Roberts and 270, next rifle will probably be a 223.

The 243 Montana 90 Scenar combo is pretty uber.

I am in a hotel room fiddling with my 270 MT in route to an elk hunt. Mine shoots 140 gr TSX's exceedingly well. I could not more pleased.

But most people don't buy a Montana to have a 7-08 - they buy a Montana to have a LIGHT 7-08.

Gotta put a Rem on a diet I'd think and you're not touching a Rem 700 Stainless for 400 in my AO. An Edge basically starts at 600 from Stockey's. Even if you're getting the Rem for 400 - 600 in the edge - you're right at where the Kimber was off the shelf.

Will they weigh the same?

People can do what they want but IMO - when I ran the numbers etc - the Kimber was the shortest line between 2 spots. LIGHT and handy.

Compare apples to apples. Price a stainless 700 and keep in mind replacing the trigger. I can't work the new triggers so that's another 100 or more. Some like the new triggers but I don't.

If this .223 comes along as well as I'm guessing, with some real load development and some different bullets, I'll consider it money well spent and have no lasting regrets. Lots of things in life are frustrating, but the end result is all that matters. Hell its just time and money......

If Kimber put a good bbl on the Mañana that was twisted properly and ran around $1,600, they'd be so far out in front of the competition it wouldn't be fair.

I do however think that Kimber is trying to address their accuracy reputation. The guarantee doesn't mean much at this point, but I've been noticing less and less of the roulette I used to see all the time. My two Montanas shoot great. The .243 was used and dialed in already. My .223 shot good but didn't like the 75 Amax so I sent it to Pacnor for a 1-8" factory dupe in .223AI. It's the awesomest gun I own.

It's a tiny little stainless action much like the Model 7 but with a great trigger and a great stock along with a fixed blade ejector, Mauser claw, 3 position safety and a firing pin hole that doesn't need bushed. Tough combo to beat.

I ran the numbers several years ago between setting up a Rem. Model 7 and rebarreling a Kimber Montana. I was looking for a true light weight rifle in 17 Rem. It was cheaper to rebarrel a new Kimber Montana. I couldn't get the Model 7 as light as the Montana without it costing more than rebarreling a new Montana.
This Montana in 17 Rem. is every thing I was looking for in a Predator rifle.
I used a Lilja barrel.
