First season started on Saturday. I'm sure a few have been invited for dinner. Lets see some pics!

I just got back. Terrible weather---hot & dry. I didn't see any fresh sign & only heard 2 shots. They were spaced about by a couple minutes-----to my thinking that was the elk. Worst season I've had in years.

Some good friends of mine stacked a couple cows.
No news on bulls.
It is hot, not a lot of weather materializing on the radar either.
Clinging to my God, and my guns!

Think a lot of folks got discouraged where we were at due to the weather, also. Hot, dry and windy is certainly not conducive to good elk hunting but we were too dumb to stop....Not my bull but my best buddys'... We hunted hard the last 3 days and packed on some serious mileage.... Found a bull last night about 5 minutes before dark and killed him at 7:30 this morning.... Not a giant but a very hard earned public lander with a rough pack out to follow. Tanner

Tanner, your buddy earned that trophy for sure. Sitting here with a broken leg, I envy all of you hunters out there spending time afield. Hopefully next year I'll find a bull at least as good as that one.

Our crew of 3 only drew cow tags this year. I shot a fat cow Sunday, the only elk we'd seen til this morning when a nice bull passed by. A hot,dry season with no rut sign/ sounds.

Got sent a pic of a decent one from Lake City area. Didn't come with anything about permission to post or not.

Haven't shot anything yet. Saw more elk the first three days this year than I saw in the previous five years, total. We still have a lot of elk in the freezer from last year, so I am being choosy. Had the drop on a couple of good 5x5s this AM, but they were not quite what I was looking for.
Animals have been pretty active early and late, and holed up in the dark timber during the day. Still a lot of bugling when they are getting ready to move. A couple of 6x6s have been taken by the guys that hunt from tree stands. I saw a good 6x6 last evening but couldn't get a shot before legal shooting time expired. Going back this evening to see if I can find him again.

Coincidentally first season opens and a nice sized herd suddenly appears moving among the private ranches in the Monument area.
I'd swear that some of those herd cows are reading the regulations.

Our group got 2 cows and a small bull. I didn't get a shot but was happy we were able to fill 3 of 4 tags. Had a wonderful time beautiful country and will be good eats.

Typical of the area I hunt, the bulls were very active on opening day. Managed to get a decent 6x6. Very happy for a public land CO bull.

When its time to fight, you fight like you are the third monkey on the ramp to get on Noah's Arc... and brother, it is starting to rain!

Shades yes! 😎. It was archery season weather. Bugleing Bulls and a rifle is a great combo.
