Just finished Friday on a load workup for the Hornady 270 grain interlock, and the Barnes 270 grain TSXFB.
Both turned out very satisfactory, but the journey was really interesting.
The Hornady's max on RL15 is 74.3 grains, (The Hornady data max) and I started at 72 grains and worked up to 74.3 (72, 73, 74.3). All three loads shot to the same point of impact, and all three grouped very, very tightly. Velocity was 2640 at the low, and 2705 average at the high.
Here was the last group of Hornady (4-shot group at 100yds)

The Barnes finished well, with a tight group of 4 at 75 grains of RL15 and an average of 2710 fps.... but, my loads at 72, 73, and 74 grains prior to the 75 was very scattered and not acceptable. Here is the last group at 75 grains on the Barnes:

I know the Barnes is superior on penetration and weight-retention, but I will be loading and shooting the Hornady on it's consistency and accuracy in my rifle... it won the day.
(rifle is a classic model 70 crf)
cheers.

Same group and load IMHO, so you pick the Hornady? For a .375? Go with the Barnes for Africa and the Hornady for America.

2 cents (and good shooting there)

I have two rifles that shoot Barnes TSX bullets very well. One of them is a .30-06 that has averaged less than 0.5 moa for more than a dozen groups at 100 and 200 yds. Both neither of those rifles shot good groups with them until I was pretty much a max loads.

My conclusion is that TSX bullets can be very accurate, but are sensitive to both powder load and seating depth, to a greater degree than most other bullets I've tested.

I am going to do exactly as you are recommending.... right now, I am not planning an African trip, and will be shooting moose and elk with this rifle. Therefore going to use the Hornady which is most-accurate out of this barrel at all fps levels.
If Africa ever becomes a reality (not in near future) I will load the 75grain Barnes.

Good advice from you!

Looks like you could shoot those loads interchangably.

Might need a couple clicks left and up though. smile

Righto... next trip to the range makes a couple final adjustments.

Good thing is after looking at the JBM ballistics on this load, my Redfield accu-range subtensions are just about perfect for me to use their standoffs for 200, 300, and 400 yard ranges.

I love it when a plan works out!

we hear about seating issues with the barnes bullets. curious as to how you determined your best seating depth

Wasn't too scientific on my 375 on finding the "best" seating depth.... I looked at the Barnes load data, and matched their recommended coal, after making sure that it wasn't too long for the magazine or chamber... it just worked right away, so didn't play with it.
note: on my 30-06, I did have to work up a 55-thousands jump, as too-close-to-the-lands didn't work at all on it's 168g TTSX.
Just got lucky on the 375 depth, I guess.
