Came across this piece BUT it has a 22" barrel (not 24-26"), both front/rear open sights, with factory walnut laminated stock, really dark and smooth bluing. Never fired but no box. Nice looking for a Charles Daly clone. Asking $900 for it... Thoughts (Y/N)? Homesteader

Cdnn blew those out, in 458 and 375, for around 500 bucks. I hesitated too long and missed out. I see them unfired for prices like you state. Good chance this is one of those, see if you can do better, but, what is it worth to you?

I only bought one 375.

^^^^^ You can say that again brother. Kinda like when I could have bought an unopened case of SKS's for a few bills. Then they had real value 6-7 years ago. Instead I bought the occasional pre-garcia Sako. They didn't appreciate as well as a freaking SKS?

you should be able to pick up up a good Whitworth 458 for that kind of money
IMO the Remingtons were decent but not in anyway finished as well as the Whitworths , nor having near the quality of sights or stocks.....

I have a 798 in .458, mine doesn't have a laminate stock, but it does have the open sites and barrel band on it. Don't remember what I bought it for, but I'd consider letting it go if you are interested in it. I don't have an exact round count on it, but I would imagine it's no more than a box of 20. I might even still have the original box, but can't promise that.

Slider1 - Thanks for the input. I don't own the 798 (sorry for the confusion I may have caused) but based upon the other 798's I've seen i.e. longer barrel, laminated stock etc. I'd not heard of the "Safari" model until now. Figured no harm in asking around about it. Homesteader

Biebs - thanks for this info. The rifle mentioned in my original post recently sold for $850 per its owner. Question - what is ART you mentioned? Homesteader

I have a Rem 798 Safari in 375 H&H. Nice gun except for the recoil. Installing a mercury recoil reducer in the butt fixed that problem
