Hi, my kids purchased a Winchester 1895 Take down in 30-06 for my 50 th. I love this rifle, accurate, reliable and very smooth. My question is this. my buddy and I were at the range and he wanted to shoot the rifle, I showed him how to load the proper way inserting the cartridge vertically and rolling it in place. He then tried to load later and it sure like he topped it off like a standard bolt action. It seems to be fine but when I look in the top of the action it looks like that there is a taper getting wider towards the front of the feed lips. I never paid attention before. This is probably just my OCD but do these mag lips have a taper? I want to use this rifle for our white tail opener but am curious. Thoughts??

Sorry. I just saw this. They are fine. Those feed Lips At the back of the mag do taper a bit. That's to help with your feeding. They should also have just a bit of play in them. If you stick your finger on them you may be able to wiggle them just a little. On real old guns, some have a lot of wiggle in them. They are not loose, or anything like that, you just should be able to move them a little. As long as your ctgs don't come flying out the top of your rifle when you load it, and they stay in the magazine when you want them to, you are good to go! wink

Good hunting!

Kay, many thanks ! The rifle feeds great, I just really looked at the internal magazine after my buddy handed it back to me. These things seem pretty rugged. I have a spot in WV where 100 yards is a long shot so I plan to use this on opening day.

Well those Miroku rifles are great! Well built and sturdy. I have two! A winchester SRC and an old 80's vintage Browning 30/06 ctg. Killed a 5 x 6 bull elk with the Browning this year.

Have originals too! Love 95's!!! Good luck on your hunt!!!
