Who would you recommend to refinish a 1B stock set that's in need of a refreshing? No repairs (that I know of).
Thanks for your input.

The answer may depend on your budget.

Unless 300.00 + doesn't faze you for a "refreshing" I would attempt doing it yourself. It's very labor intensive and lead times will have you wondering if you'll ever get it back. It's just the nature of having someone provide this service.

Bullberry in Utah. Excellent stockmaker and refinisher. Reasonable.

Have you checked with Ruger? They may do it at a decent price.
About 20-some years ago, Browning refinished the metal on a Superposed for my late brother and at his request, stripped and sanded the stock so he could oil-finish it.
What fresh Hell is this?

Thank you for your suggestions and links. I saw that Bullberry does wood work as well. I never thought to call Ruger about it, but will inquire with them. Budget is always a concern, so no, $2,000 is not reasonable. I'm going to look into doing it myself. It might be a cold winter here.

I agree with do it yourself. I have done a number of them and good wood will come thru if you do your part. This is just sanded through the grits and finished off with a wet sand 600 grit. The finish is plain old Minwax wipe on poly. If you are not satisfied, finish the poly with Brownells Triple X or even five stock rubbing compound until you get the amount of "Pop" you want. Good luck.

I refinished the wood on a Winchester M/92 using Minwax Wipe-on Poly, the results were surprisingly good. I would not hesitate to use it again, I admit in the beginning I was kind of skeptical about the results using a wipe on finish and a poly finish at that. It was easy to use and the results were entirely satisfactory.

Wet sanded with tung oil(no stain). Allow the "mud" to dry for a couple days. Repeat until the grain is completely filled.
