Spent years looking at M64s at gun shows, most of which had little bluing left and some nasty wood, but all were overpriced for their condition (in my opinion).
Pretty much decided I was never gonna have one, because there was no way in hell I'd pay $800-$1000 for something that was a step away from a tomato stake.
Then a few years ago in a stroke of pure, dumb luck, found one for sale in our local paper. Went to the seller's house expecting to find something in fair condition for the advertised price of $600, stunned to find it in mint condition.
To say I was tickled with it, ain't even close. The price was just icing on the cake, would've gone beyond what the guy wanted for it, but he was happy. He said I was the only call he'd gotten on it, after a few days in the paper.
As noted, I too have seen a few others in pretty nice shape, all listed at a thou and beyond. Some of the clunkers seen at shows were tagged higher than that.
The one in the pic appears pretty darn close to mine, condition wise, so I'd say a thou for a starting price.
Might vary in different locales where they're in more demand? Apparently no one besides me was interested in this one, at the time.
