I'm guessing, assuming your statement is true, it is because of greater availability of brass and/or ammo. I think a lot of people (I won't say most) laud the merits of the 7-08 based specifically on it's similarity to the outstanding 7x57. Just my thoughts.

Had both in Tikka's and I would go back to a 7mm-08 in a flash, I like my 25's but the 7mm-08 with a 139 gr GMX is a low recoil killing machine.
