Just now getting around to posting pictures from last weekends hunt. 5 adults, a high schooler, an 8 year old and 11 year old made it out to western Kansas. Reports of higher bird numbers had everybody and their dog out there. First 3 fields we wanted to hunt had trucks sitting at them nearly an hour before sunrise, so we ended up on a field we'd never hunted before, which turned out to be a pretty good field both Saturday and Sunday. Ended up with 14 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday morning, should have had more, missed a few, nearly drought conditions didn't lead to great work on some wounded birds. Did have some awesome points by my shorthair as well as some good work and flushes by my brother in laws lab-
At the end of the first field, ended with 5 birds. Should have had a couple more. Game warden stopped to talk to us, gave us a survey card to fill out, and never once asked to see our hunting licenses or see our birds. My buddy said thats the last time he is buying a license....
Me and dad after the first field, dad was carrying a new to him 16 guage Dickinson, he got a few shots in the air this weekend, but not a ton. Luck of the draw I guess.
My 8 year old nephew Ike (with his dad) with his first and second pheasants of his life, shooting a single shot .410. He is an experienced bird hunter, having shot a couple quail the previous weekend....Can't wipe that smile off with a brillo pad.
My shorthair Katy on point, with brother in laws lab coming in from behind. No quail were harmed in the taking of this picture. She quit hunting for these guys after about the 8th shot and no feathers in the air-
