So I was going to go sight in a rifle today for my father, a Model 100 in 308. Got to the range, pulled the gun out of the case, got ready to load it and then.... The magazine would not come out. I could not get the thing to budge at all. The little tab that you press seems to be stuck hard (or bent maybe?). There does appear to be some rust and corrosion around the tab. The tab is very stiff and does not feel quite right to me.

Does anyone know what the problem may be here? Or have any tips for what I should look for?

Thank you all in advance!

I'd try a few drops of penetrating oil right on the areas where the rust is and then leave the gun upside down so the oil could work its' way inside....

You might want to start by spraying a little oil in the area that's rusted and let it soak a day or two.

Sounds like a good place to start. Thanks. I'll give that a try and see if that helps do the trick.

if the oil soak doesn't work, try tapping the magazine catch with a soft metal punch and hammer in the opening direction - after clearing the action and magazine of any ammo and closing the bolt to provide pressure on the magazine by the bolt bottom to help push the magazine out. Good luck with it! Mel Chung

Jeeze, I guess I know I have half or some timers now! I did not realize we had 2 model 100 threads going, try PB blaster or better yet Kroil, it can be bad on the wood SOO to be on safe side, do yourself a big favor and visit a REAL gunsmith!!! Many POO POO the 100, I love mine BUT I have zeroed others that had the worse triggers Ive ever seen, I was lucky! I liked mine so well I talked my FIL into buying a model 490,A few years later he gave me the 490, the model 100's baby brother in .22LR ( they were put together in Canada ! go figure that one), I love that gun as well but have yet to find a gunsmith that can do anything with the grunt er trigger! I had to reach way back but I out-shot a guy with a tricked out 10-22 with my 490....fantastic barrel on mine but the trigger is a $hit sandwich! the very best WinPoor

When you depress the mag release, make sure you are pulling back on the slide. It may be holding it in.
