What is the difference in contour between a factory sporter and a factory magnum?

About 60 thousandths, but that's from memory. Seems like if the sporter muzzle is .600, the mag. countour will be around .660, maybe .670

Negative,

They (mag and sporter) are both @.660 at the muzzle, the difference is the mag starts out at a greater diameter near the receiver (I want to say 'shank', but Remington doesn't have a traditional shank).

Anyways the mag is thicker at the shank and carries it out forward but ends up at about same muzzle diameter as the sporter.

Steel, You're right as the sporter bbl. that I had used for comparison was a 1974 22" with a somewhat slimmer profile than the current 24" sporters. It was an ADL .243 from back when they had the high gloss stocks and deeply blued gloss bbls.
Thanks for the correction,

John

Good description. It explains why I was able to put a mag contour and a spotter contour in the same stock.
