I have a sporter weight 597 that has run perfectly with factory 10 rd metal mags since replacing the extractor with a Volquartsen. Reloading the factory 10 rd mags gets old plinking at the range so I'm looking for one or more extended mags but I'm not sure which are the best. The ones I know about are from Remington, Champion and Promag. Does anyone make a reliable extended magazine for the 597, possibly with last round hold open although that's not a deal breaker.

I ordered a Promag 22 rd. It seems to get decent reviews so I'll post up how it runs when I get it. Apparently no one makes a really good extended mag for the 597 like the bx-25 for the 10/22.

Let us know how it works out. I have the 597M in .22WMR but the factory mags are just fine for what I use it for. Might want to look for bigger ones someday.

UNCCGrad: By coincidence my local pawn/sport shop just got in a factory bubble packed high capacity Remington 597 extended magazine. I have rarely seen these extended 597 factory Remington magazines. Their phone number is 406-683-9844 if you decide to try the high capacity factory Remington magazine. This shop is open Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. (M.S.T.). Good luck with whichever you go with. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

It showed yesterday. Seems decent and no issues holding 22+ rounds. There were some mold seams and burrs that I went ahead and sanded out on the body and around the feed lips. It hand feeds fine so hopefully it works as well in the field. I gave $17 shipped to get it.
Varmintguy thanks for the info. Reports I've read on the factory Rem 30 rd mags have not been great. More miss than hit.

I ran about 4 or 5 mags full with the 22rd Promag yesterday and can happily report that I had no magazine related issues. Only issue I had was a dud American Eagle copper hp. I may have to pick up a couple more on the future
