So I have decided on a few things for the new gun...
Savage 110 donor action
7mm Cal 195 Bergers 1-8 or 8 1/2 twist
26 inch barrel---- looking to build light weight, maybe a christensen, or a proof research.
Just will have to have a smith, Ream and thread the barrel.
Not sure on a stock or optics yet.

There sure are lots of those carbon barreled jobs selling cheap. Might want to take that into consideration.

Ugh...
I'd start over from the start..
First build?

What would would you start over, No not first build, 2nd though. Furst build where I have put it together. Have a lot of factory rifles, have a custom rem model 7, 300 wsm. I just funded and let the smith put it together.
Give me a few pointers guys I am willing to listen, watch, and learn.

Dude, a Savage!? What does McMillan make for Savage?
Bergers!? All they do is explode on impact.
Just kidding. I've got nothing against Savage. I have been on one guided bull elk hunt and almost all the rich dudes (that would NOT be me) carried Savage rifles. And Bergers will work fine.
In all seriousness, I would get a barrel about like a Lilja #2 to a Bartlein 2B, somewhere between those weight ranges. Pick a stock you like, and shoot the hell out of it. After a couple thousand rounds you'll know what you like about it and what you don't, and you can try again.
I would get a Lilja #2, 8-twist, action of choice in long action magnum, McMillan Savage Mountain Rifle stock in Edge fill (if you pick a Savage), and chamber in 7mm Mashburn Super Magnum. I would put a Leupold 6x42 on top, in Talley Screw Lock rings.
I would start with a Remington or Winchester. And I would shoot 160 Nosler Accubonds. But that's just personal preference.
Good luck!

That is something to ponder, I know nothing about the Mashburn.

That is something to ponder, I know nothing about the Mashburn. Well don't go searching for info, it's only going to convince you that you need one! And for a guy (me) with 2 30-06 hunting rifles, and a third 30 cal barrel received today, a 7 Mashburn is about the antithesis of a 30-06. Except they both kill [bleep].

If you need to build: Remington 700 McMillan Classic 24" custom tube 1-8" no larger than factory mag contour SS 6x or 10x MQ
Or just buy a Montana WSM and rebarrel to 7 WSM.

Personally I would opt for a Tikka T3 as a donor action. The receivers pretty much don't need to be touched, as opposed to a typical Remington that needs squared.
The Savage makes sense if you intend to install your own barrel, and can save a bunch in gunsmithing. If you are paying for someone to do the gunsmithing, skip the Savage.
I have a long action Savage heavy barrel .300 win mag that is collecting dust. I keep thinking of buying a new barrel (Nothing wrong with old barrel, I just built a new 300 a while back and the savage never gets shot now).
I really don't "need" another project, but the switch barrel ability of the savage appeals to the Scottish side of me.
THE CHAIR IS AGAINST THE WALL. The Tikka T3 in .308 Winchester is the Glock 19 of the rifle world. The website is up and running!www.lostriverammocompany.com

This is the action I used for my last rifle. Installed right out the box, very smooth and strong. I love it. http://montanarifleco.com/?page_id=10

Montana 1999 stainless in .308 win McGowan 24" Chrome Moly #2 contour 1-10 twist McMillan Hunters Edge Leupold mounts Meopta 3-9X42 This is a working rifle, much more accurate than I am and a joy to shoot. Very slick action.

Savage 110 & lightweight don't really go together.
Do a Kimber 84L 280 AI & skip the build.
I can't imagine the time money & frustration I'd have saved had I gone this route on several of my customs. Lightweight requires planning right from the get-go or as another member would say ya gotta start at the beginning.
