In a VX-3 2.5-8x -

IF POA = 200 yds, how far will the dots take you w/o turret twisting?

Depends on your BC, MV, and atmo. Typical 308 load, around 600 yards, give or take. Of course you are giving up some precision compared to using the turret, depending on how well your eyeball is calibrated at subdividing a mil.

JBM can calc the mils for you. If you half you power, you can double your mil value, and run it to 10 mils. Of course that assumes a second focal plane reticle, and you are going to lose even more precision.

Got an Android App called Strelok that you can plug your info into and it'll show you an image of your reticle with yardages marked and an aiming point etc. Might be worth a try for a visual, or not, just an idea from the couch LOL...

This is what it puked out for USMC Mil Dot and a slowish 6.5 Creedmoor 140 Amax load I'd had in there... Then can email image from the app.

And the SWFA MilQuad, but different distance input.

Pic worth 1000 words smile

Montana Marine - likely 6.5/47 130 - so prob close to the pics above my post - which will reach 98-99% of my shots afield at this time. Might be a good option. Always liked the #4 reticle and mil-dot when not using a std duplex. G4 fast in brush, mil-dot dusted a few deer to 400 yds on a former Ruger #1 6BR....an old B&L 4200 6-24, long scope - which was set up for bench work, but it did the deed. Later had a more compact SF model which I headshot a yote about 200 yds facing me around 12-14x...

The ballistic reticles like LRD never interested me vs plain Mil-Dot. The mil-dot just seemed to be a fast and simple contrasting reticle in all light conditions for me.

Thanks for the info guys!
