Since we are talking about LR bullets.....A while ago I posted that I could not get the Barnes 168 LR to stabilize in my 7MAG.

Was questioned as to the twist was really not 1x9, gunsmith switched barrels, didn't know what I was doing, etc. I called Barnes and they emphatically stated the bullet was designed for 1X9 twist.
Gave up and went to the 175 gr AB.

Thought I would give the Barnes another try...Guess what the box now says 1X8 twist or faster.....

Makes sense as they are quite a bit longer than the 175 ABLR

Tarheel,

It used to say 1X9 as did their boxes. I just spoke with a Barnes tech and he said in response to several complaints they changed their recommendation to 1X8.
He did mention that they did all their testing at 5000' + elevation and that may have been a factor.

I just got a new Pac Nor 280ai barrel, and I had it made with a 1:8. I bought 2 boxes of those 168 grn Barns LRX, but haven't tried them yet.

I had my barrel throated for the 168 Berger VLD, I'm hoping I'll have enough throat to seat those LRX bullets also. They are super long… But we'll see. Barns did send me some load data for the 280ai and the 168 LRX.

That's very kind of you.

I'm concentrating on the Berger 168 VLD to start with, so it may be a while before I try the Barns LRX. With a busy family life, I just need to focus my trips to the range.

Also, for anyone out there trying these 168 grain LRX in a 280ai, attached is the load data Barns sent me.

thanks again!
