I know a few of these are floating around here on the Fire. How much does the newer Montana weigh in 300 WSM with Talley LW and Leupie 3.5-10x40? Or Leupie 2.5-8x36?

Thanks.

My Montana 308 with a VX3 3.5-10 40mm with Tally weighs 6.1 lbs. You could add the difference in weight between my short action and long action and you will get your weight. It will be about 1 lbs heavier so around 7.1lbs.

I have a 270 set up identical to the 300 WSM I inquired about. Calculated weight difference would make the 300 WSM come out at 7lb 6oz - which seems a bit high.

My last 300 WSM MT with Talley Lwts, Leupold 3-9x40, 3 rounds, and Uncle Mikes Mountain Sling went 7lbs 5oz's.

My Kimber Montana 8400 7mm WSM with it's 2.5-8 Conquest and no sling weighs 6# 2.3 oz. My Montana 270 WSM weighs 7# 13oz with it's 4.5-14 Leu.,obj. cover and syn. sling.

These Kimber 8400 WSM's weigh less than a old pre-64 M70 Featherweight with only a 22" barrel instead of the Kimbers 24"

I had one of the early ones as well. Mine weighed 6lb 15oz with Leupie 3-9. It was a bit much. I was hoping the new Kimbers were closer to 7.5 lbs. I've been playing with my Montana 270 and really really like the fit. Wonder if magnaport help tame it a bit?

I'm betting you're glad you avoided the 30-06 MT...

I am a big 270 win and 300 win fan but I knew when setting up my fly weight Montana it was going to be in the very capable 308. It's about ideal for the Montana's light weight.
My bigger calibers are in a M70 Featherweight.

My 300WSM with Talley LW's and a VXII 3-9x40 weighs 7#'s 2oz. on a postal scale.
Now with a VX-R 3-9x40 and 30mm Talley LW's it goes 7# 3.6oz..

Mine runs 7lb 3OZ VX-III 2.5-8, Talley LW's, Butler Creeks, no sling, not loaded. I think this is a bigwhoop hand me down!

300wsm is not a long action, just a "fatter" action.

With an out of box weigh of 6# 2oz., most are generally adding a pound with their scope setups.

I have spread my share of Montana's far and wide and improved countless gun safes in the process. whistle

You are right! Thank you for the correction.

When I weighed the 8400 on my postal scale I let it's bolt handle knob touch the front of the scale. The view of that was hidden by the rifle laying on the scale. blush

B: Magnaport will bring recoil straight back, reduce muzzle flip. I suppose it will help some, but it's still a 180 gr bullet at 3000 fps.

Of the various 300 WSM's I've owned and shot, the best from the standpoint of balancing carry weight, easy accuracy and portability,is the M70 EW. The stock may not be perfect but mitigates recoil well. I think it's about perfect for the cartridge.

Have owned the Montana in 300 WSM,as well as the wood stocked version and both were a bit rude for my taste.

Prior to the Montana 7WSM, I had a 70 Classic 7WSM in a Tupperware stock and an Extreme Weather 300WSM with the B&C Medalist, to me, recoil from both was nastier than the Montana.

Bob - as you know I have an EW. It handles recoil well. I've had a bunch of people shoot it and they all say the same thing - "that ain't bad". It is designed well.

I'm trying to decide if I need to put a McM Edge on it, buy a MT 300 WSM, or leave things as they are. Since I've been playing with the MT 270 win, I'm all enamored with light rifles again. But - I've had too light before and didn't enjoy it much at all. The thing I remember most about my previous 300 WSM MT was the muzzle rise, hence my comment on magnaport.

The EW fits me very well but does weigh 8lbs 5-6oz. Adding an Edge should make it 8.0 lbs all up. I think this would still be tolerable.

Anyone living close enough to Knoxville, I can shoot your new MT 300 WSM?
