Saw a 99 in a shop the other day in 358. Barrel seemed kinda long, steel buttplate, wood was OK. Had a vintage no-name scope. The blueing was goofed up on the last 5" of the barrel. It looked like it rested in a chemical laced plastic bag for a bit. No rust - just blue removed in a weird pattern.
They had $750 on it. Is it worth it?

They don't know what they have most likely, no matter the exact model. If you want it, pound on them about the bluing and get a good deal.

I looked for a sub model and didn't see any letters. The barrel was stamped with a Chicapee address, I think. My memory isn't so good, as I was distracted by the 3 Mausers and the Sedgley Springfield that I brought home.
I know it is heresy, but this will be a "fend off the bears" around the house gun. Because it will remain loaded and ready to go 365 days a year, I was kinda looking at a BLR. Mag springs are easily replaced and you can uncock the main spring. When I was looking at a 358 BLR, another customer told me about the 99 - so I HAD to look!

Heck that's probably a desirable EG, R, or maybe even a DL if it has the 24" barrel. All hard to find. Go get it.

If it had the Chicopee address it would be a highly desirable rifle in .358. Buy it.

Cowboy,

If you ever post a picture here, could you slip the Sedgley into the background?

Thanks,

Doug
