If you live, hunt and shoot anywhere in Kansas...you damn sure best be able to correct for wind drift!

I think that advice is applicable to any state west of the Mississippi.....

Sharpsman,

I'm all for it. Do you know of a formula to solve the hold off in different velocities?

Get a ballistic app for your smart phone, and set it up with any number of velocity/BC combinations.

Thanks, smokepole, for the suggestion. I checked that. What I would like is a formula.

I understand completely. Just the other day the guys at work wanted to get an engineering software package that performs load-bearing calculations.

I told 'em I was holding out for a new slide rule.

Make 'em throw in an abacus also.

Google "Jeff Hoffman's wind formula".

Formidilosus gave me the most useful method I've yet used for wind holds. Run different wind velocities in 1 mph increments through a good ballistics program until you find what velocity gives a .1 mil per 100 yard correction. Once you have that it's easy to make quick mental adjustments based on your current wind conditions and wind clock.

Also google "Shoot milk jugs on really windy days as often as possible."

Which formula do you use for that?

It's pretty easy to hang combined drop and wind data derived from confirmed ballistic program output on your rifle.

I looked at hondo's suggestion and at 10 mph from 3 or 9 there is about .1 mil correction per 100 yards with every cartridge I use from .243 to .300, almost.

IPA + Dillon + IPA + range + make children setup targets far away + IPA + shoot.

Screw you! I'm voting for Trump again!

If I'm not shooting well I will sometimes blame them and throw empty IPA's in their direction.

Wind brackets are generally good out to 600-700 yards. The better ballistics that you have the farther out it good for. Having said that, it takes a 7mm Berger 180gr at 3,200fps to match a 10mph wind bracket at SAC. Most "normal" hunting rounds with good bullets will be between a 4 to 7 mph wind bracket.
