The vegetation is generally so think in the mountains here, you can't see 75 yards. A wide view with low power works best. I was out today and I settled on 3X on a lit VX6.
I recently acquired a 1-4x24 Illuminati which I mounted on a LE6920. Pretty damn nifty, and I like it better than the 10x super chickens I've had. Now, if only SWFA would add illumination on the fixed 6x...
At any rate, looks like I'll be picking up at least a couple more 1-4's on Friday. Robust little scope with ample adjustment that actual tracks AND has an illuminated reticle for under three bills... a phfuggin' steal.
so I see they are coming out with a MOA reticle, which means if it becomes available in the 3-15 or 6x i will have to jump on the band wagon and give it a try
Clearing a 700 factory varm contour on a fairly low base (not bought yet) with the 6x42, go lows on the freebie rings? May have to try this mil quad thing on a cut down 5R .308.

Is it this one you like http://swfa.com/SWFA-SS-1-4x24-Tactical-30mm-Riflescope-P78365.aspx I've been drooling over this for a while to put on a Colt also! Hell wouldn't mind putting one on my 700 lss mountain (7mm-08) also. I'll miss the sale but even at the regular price it seems like a heck of a deal!
When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns! (from a 1960's bumper sticker)
I assume the subtensions on the 3-9x42mm FFP are usable across the range of magnification? Was thinking of a 6x and a 10x, but the discounted 3-9 may the winner
There is a 10X MQ and a set of Ruger rings in my imediate future.
I had searched the site and had not come up with sale prices.
It is easy to fix the Ruger bases to use the SWFA supplied rings.
With a small square file to the rear only of the Ruger bases and a few minutes of work, pic type rings will work wonderfully. The Ruger bases are soft aluminum and very easy to work. Here is fitting the SWFA rings supplied with the SS 6x package deal. Go slow, check often, and only remove metal from the rear surface, NONE from the forward surface. Gently blow off the particles while working. When all done, a shot of Gun Scrubber is good for the final cleaning.
Just ordered the 6x42 MQ with the Low rings Why aint it here yet !! LOL
Same here. Seems like a "can't lose" kind of deal.
Based on the good press here, I ordered two of them at about 1205!

Was able to snag a 6x42MQ and 3-9x42.. we'll see how if they are in stock and how they work. Then decide if the 3-9x40mm Conquest remains atop the 7RM or takes a hike/rest. Got hit for living in Texas, could've gotten some 30mm rings for the tax paid!
This is a little off base and don't mean to change the subject, but I went into Dick's this morning to buy my son a riffle. He wants a Rem 700 in .308. They only have the black on black with a no-name scope and it's not on sale $499.00. They've got a Savage Trophy Hunter with cammo in 30-06 with a Nikon BDC 3-9x40 on sale for $449.00. The guy behind the counter said the scope goes for $200.00 by it's self, but I'm not believing anything those guys tell me.
What do you guys think of the Savage opposed to the Rem. I need to act fast, I'm not sure how long it'll be on sale.

The rems are hit/miss lately IMO, and yes the scope on the rems are junk...worth ~$50. That savage package is a better deal and they have a rebate on them right now. They're more consistent in their manufacturing lately vs. Rem IMO.
Savage has a well earned reputation of rough barrels, particularly cro-mo ones.
Thanks. I've never owned a Savage, but it seems like a good deal. I was going to get him the Rem 700 and get a Leupold VX1 3-9x40, but the Savage is enticing.

I own 2 Savages, they might not be pretty but they are the most consistently accurate rifles out of the box that I have owned. They are not picky at all with load development to the point of being boring. I've not seen excessive copper fouling.
Can't comment on the new Savages, or the optics on the combo, but my 2 used sporter Savage 110s have been consistent performers, both with factory ammo and reloads. They may not produce the proverbial cloverleaf internet groups, but it may be more my load development and technique than the guns. With the 7mmRM I have killed the 7 big game animals I have shot at, all 1 shot kills. It does shoot better with a fouled barrel, and does not throw cold bore flyers, can't complain about it for a hunting gun.

But I need 30 mm ring/mounts to fit a Ruger SA mk II.

I'm pondering a 10x for a Ruger American 17 HMR. Any thoughts about if the HD is worth it? Also, what ring height should I get? Will low work? Thanks in advance.

Fuggit'... just ordered a fixed 6x for my daughters .223 and a 1-6 donut of death Illuminati for me to play with. Between SWFA, Cabelas, PSA, and Primary Arms this has been one hell of a Black Friday & Saturday!

The 6x is really nice. I love mine.

I caved and bought another 12x Mil-Quad. I bought one on sale last year and it did well in its intended use before being sold off, so I figured I'd try it again.
SWFA has this situation a lot (and not just during their sales). Not that difficult to tie their inventory in with their website orders. That way when they're out of inventory, it's reflected on their online order page, and it can't be added to checkout and tie up your CC balance.
How do they handle out-of-stock orders? Do they put it on backorder or cancel the order? What if you order other items that are in stock? Do they ship those at the time of purchase? Do they charge another shipping fee when the backordered item's shipped?

This has been my biggest beef with these guys. Seriously SWFA, step into the 21st Century and get an up to date automated inventory system. I don't mind backordering something if I KNOW it's going to be backordered. What I DON'T like is having my CC charge for something that is NOT in stock and NO IDEA when it will be in stock.

This is my first time ordering from this company and I'm not happy they excepted my money knowing the item wasn't in stock without informing me up front before placing the order.
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.
It really is this easy. "Please cancel my order and reinstate the funds to my card, I decided not to save hundreds of dollars." Life is too short to sweat this crap. Cancel the friggin orders and move on.
I understand that tons of people waited to buy SWFA scopes for these crazy low prices, so if my order takes significantly longer than normal I really don't care. YMMV. And having my card hit now makes no difference to me. My savings account is returning .001 interest so I'll survive them having my money for a bit.
I have had nothing but good experiences with SWFA on their SS scopes and many off their samplelist.com site. To expect the Black Friday shopping experience to come off without a hitch is expecting a little much in my opinion.
And I would rather be able to backorder a SS scope at $259 then be told "sorry, we sold out at that price and the offer is no longer valid."
I went light this season, a new classic 1-4, Aeroprecision LW mount, and a Geissle G2S trigger. A $299.00 repeatable, reliable 1-4 is the best deal in the world for the close range deer hunting.
Best I can tell is that SWFA doesn't charge your CC until they have the product and ready to ship. Sounds like there have been incidents where it did happen but it isn't SOP.
Sticker on the box and sticker on the scope, arrived today. Did a doubletake myself, a rather wide-eyed WTF having only heard Made in Japan for the line. Wonder if this has been the case with the Classic 1-4x24 all along?

I was under the impression that both OEM's were in Japan. Sometimes OEM's will have several different facilities for the products they make even though the main location, or the mother land so to speak, is based out of Japan. I know the OEM that makes the HD models is based in Japan and as far as I know everything they make is in one location only.
My CC was showing a "pending payment" on SWFA website, called them yesterday and was told that shipment was pending and everything was fine. I bought a 6x42 and 3-9×42. Later I got an email and tracking... Should be here today... but I'm on call at the hospital and won't be back home till tomorrow afternoon. And kids will be needing attention as I will need to sleep. Ergo, no SS play until the weekend.
I ordered a 1-4 thinking these where made in Japan. Maybe it makes no difference but if somebody can confirm if the 1-4x24 was originally made in Japan and is now made in the Philippines I'd appreciate it.
I just called them, the components are made in Japan but assembled in the Philippines. They have made this model this way since it was introduced in November of 2014. The first one I had did not have a made in the Philippines sticker on it, but it has worked as advertised. I still may send the new one back just because its aggravating to discover something like this after the fact.
If it works "as advertised" why would you send it back ? I have a Leica ER scope that says " Made in Germany " but it is actually made in Portugal. I'm not sending that one back, that's for sure.
Most Japanese OEMs these days either have additional factories in the Phillipines, or alliances with Phillipine makers.
Of the SWFA SS line, the only Phillipine assembled scope so far is the 1-4x24. However, unless I am misunderstanding something, it is built by the same company that builds the rest of the SS Classic scopes in Japan. The build the components in their facility in Japan and assemble it in their facility in the Phillipines.
i wish I knew the Sightron SIII moa-2's were on such a great sale on black friday. By the time I found out, all the 8-32s were gone, I was able to snag two 6-24s for a great price. Over the last few years I replaced 6 or 7 Nightforces with them and have zero complaints. I wanted to try the 1-4, but had just grabbed a VERY cheap Eotech at the last gun show and all my ARs have optics already.
I'm by no means worried and know it will arrive but order that Friday, CC charged, and no word yet.
My only complaint with SWFA is every time I order the items are on back order. I don't know why they can't just tell you when you order. Other than that they have always been great. I am up to 6-SWFA scopes now, can't beat them.....
I ordered 3 scopes and received a shipping confirmation Tuesday. From the sounds of the number of orders placed, I am more than happy with that.I ordered some items from other vendors and received shipping confirmation either Monday or Tuesday. I have ordered from SWFA in the past and have never had a bad experience with them.
Part of the problem with some delays was from them moving into a much bigger building not too long ago. That also caused some delay with some of the new scope models that will be coming out as well
I had no problems at all with them. I did not wait until the last minute. My scopes were shipped and are tied up in the stupid postal dis-service somewhere. UPS sends small items to the postal for delivery to rural addresses. That just plain pisses me off, because it delays everything at least a full day.

Chris said if you want, he'll assemble them in his office, but the price will be $1400........
Seems any mis on the information occured a year ago. I'll live with the sticker since he's already gifted me a few Benjamins.
Ordered online Friday at 12:01. Called later and they let me add another scope, pay the difference on a different card - effectively combining postage. Pleasant ladies on the phone. In-hand on Wednesday. No complaints.

I ordered mine at 7 am Friday morning. Got an email Monday saying the Seekins long action 0 MOA rail was back ordered. Everything else shipped. Heck of a deal on Seekins rings and rails...

Excellent point; and, one could always contact them and cancel the order if one is unwilling to wait for the backorder to be filled.

Just got the 1-4 in. The high rings that they threw in seem to be quite adequate for what I have in mind. Mounted up and looking forward to wrecking some coyote days with it.
The 6x showed up in the same box today. So ordered on the busiest day of the year and got both scopes exactly 5 business days later. Nice.
Got my 1-4's 2 days ago. I really like it so far, and clarity at 1x is not as bad as I expected based on a few posts here. Illumination is nice and doesn't bleed - retinal stays sharp.
Looks like I will be sending my 6x back in..Mounted it today and when I tried to bore sight it the vertical doesn't move no matter how much I spin it ...The windage moves, but travels a 45 degree path..
Everything seems right, set screws are tight and all..Just no movement on the up and down..
This is the kinda luck that follows me around...LOL

My 1-4 came today in the US Mail, it looks identical to the one I got last year except for the made in the Philippines sticker on the bottom. I can see no visual difference.

Leave it to a cowpokes fan to immediately think of something like that...
I ordered mine on Monday the 30th, and it still hasn't shipped. When I called last Thursday they said it would ship out that Friday. That didn't happen. It's been in "Needs Scanning" status for the last 4 days. Ugh.
I understand that the scopes are nice and the sale was great, but their CS, ordering, and shipping processes all need work.
I ordered mine at 12:01 AM 11/27 and received it last night by USPS. SWFA shipped within 3 days, but the Postal Service held it up for 4-5 days before showing any progress in transit.
My order most likely would have arrived in 4-5 days vs. the 11 days had package not been transferred to USPS for final delivery.
Overall, order arrived in good condition, so happy in the end.
I ordered my 1-4x24 on the last day of the sale. It shipped on my he 7th. The tracking info says it shipped Priority 2-Day and it was $12 for the shipping. The tracking info also says it should arrive on the 11th.
In case anybody is looking for a cheap and low setup for a 6x42 on a 700, the SWFA low rings and some $22 Burris Extreme Tactical 2pc steel bases get things down fairly low on a PSS/5R/LTR contour without interfering with the bolt handle. Don't know if BC caps will clear the handle out back.

Years and years ago, when we acquired the "Tasco Super Sniper" it wasn't just for the intellectual property of the riflescope. However it was for all of the "Super Sniper" assets, including they packaging. This resulted in several container boxes in which the scopes are enclosed.
Once we finalized the purchase, we deconstructed the line, and reengineered the designed improving on it. One of the greater enhancements was recessing the objective lens. Originally, Tasco offered the scope with the objective lens being nearly flush with the end of the scope. This is a tail tell of an original Tasco. All of the SWFA SS, will have a recessed objective lens. There were several other upgrades internally. However the easiest way to know if you have an SWFA SS vs. Tasco Super Sniper is the objective lens.
Recently with our more recent manufacturing runs, we incorporated the etched eagle on the left side of the scope. However we do still have some older inventory on various models that are not as popular that do not have any of the branding on it.
Please let us know if there is anything that we may assist you with.

So...according to your other post your new chicken has no chicken. Does this mean that your new chicken is really a very old chicken they dug out of a box in back when they ran out of inventory?
