Most likely New Durham......taking the boy to the blueberry land prior to "Thanksgiving" dinner. Both big brother and I are on shift Thursday.

The 270 does it again! grin

This is not to say the number could have been much higher(maybe double?) because 200 pound bucks could have been killed but not registered in the program by the hunters (you fill out a card and submit it, Some hunters might not care).

Highest number I saw was 772 bucks out of a harvest of some 36,000 animals.Seems the number of 200# bucks taken each year comprises about 1.5% to 2.5% of the total harvest, according to stats that I saw.

I didn't realize how few deer were killed in Maine. Compared to the opening two days in Missouri where 97K+ deer were killed 22K doesn't sound like many for a entire season.

It's different up here. The whole NH deer herd is estimated at ~74,000.

Closest I've come to 200 was an 8 pointer I popped when I was 16 that went 192, but that was an NH buck, not a Mainer.

Just back from hunting deer in South Dakota and saw the headline... Congrats on a dandy buck!! It is not often you see five deer over 200 pounds on a meatpole anywhere. That is quite a feat to say the least. There are a ton of guesstimates over 200, but to put them on the scale and actually attain that weight is rare to say the least. Then to put five of them up is unreal. I have to say when I saw the thread before opening it I was cheering for the .280....

Mike it was pretty astonishing. Of course all were weighed as they must be in Maine,so no guesstimates.

I underestimated mine, figuring him at 185-190 dressed.

Just got the final report as everyone in my party is headed home. Of the 5 of us, three killed bucks over 200; one saw and passed a smaller 6 point in the 150-160 pound range. The other saw a big buck traveling in the wood line on the cut,too far back in to risk a shot through the trees. So we were 5 for 5 on sightings of legal bucks for the week.

Two PA guys killed the other two 200 pounders. One of that group wounded a buck yesterday. They are looking for him. Don't have the full story.

The 280 got zeroed and came along. If I were not revving up for Kansas I would be in NH and would take it. I lugged the 270 in Maine because it's new, too and needed to blood the thing. grin

Next stop......Wichita! smile

Danged old .270s anyway, you should know by now that they never work on a deer......................

At least, neither of mine did this year, I had to switch to a .30/30 to let them take a breather. Oddly enough, it worked, too.

Great buck Bob... outstanding group success. Maine is not a simple place to kill bucks...

Nice deer! Regarding clearcuts, here in northern NJ a new pipeline was installed. When the work was done, the state made the pipeline company replant the work area with trees....how stupid can you get? Northern NJ hills are climax forests, need cutting to get some light down on the ground.

Thanks Brad! You know the area well.... what it's like up there. No doubt we hit it just right with a dose of luck to boot.

JerseyBoy: Not a smart move. But then I hear Jersey has a pile of deer!

Jerseyboy: I worked for that pipeline company and tried to fight the state and feds on the replanting as well as defending our mowers for cutting some of those trees by mistake. Glad to have retired as I was sick of dealing with those dipshits!
