Happy thanksgiving all! It was a great day on northwoods WI. We got a bit of snow tonight so we are all hoping to pop one in the snow tomorrow. There are only two of left up here now. We'll close the camp down Saturday afternoon sometime. It's been a great season. I don't want to leave.

Thanks for asking Joe! I had to work. I'm a Vision Center Manager/optician for Wal-Mart, and while my Vision Center was closed, I had to go out and work 1-10 in the main store. Turkey leftovers at 10:30 p.m. for me!

Some really good looking deer, congrats guys! Hope ya'll had a happy Thanksgiving. ND, that's how we've felt the last couple seasons at our camp! Last year a doe walked by our shack window at dinner time, only deer the four of us saw that year. The year before two of the guys saw a doe while doing a push through some popples and that was the only deer seen that year also. This year was the buck I shot and the buck I couldn't shoot at and those were the only deer seen by us and the neighboring camp, too. We seen some tracks from a few deer moving at night but the wolf tracks outnumbered the deer 12/1 or so. Hey tzone, my uncle and cousins haven't faired well, up in Vilas County. Glad you'ns are shooting some deer. Dennis Andersen had a article in the Star-Trib before deer season about how these last few years are the lowest % of bucks shot since the beginning of the 1940's. Well hopefully it's better next year.

Yeah, nobody's even seeing deer, and they just keep churning out doe tags like there's nothing going on. They need to really cut back further on the doe tags, especially up north.

Dave-

If Joe gets ready to trap, I think I still have some steel out in the back garage. No beaver traps, but it would be 110 Connibears, #1 and #1 1/2 long springs. I know I had a few #1 undercoils too. Not sure if they're even still out there, but if they are, he's welcome to them. I could get them to Tom and maybe when you guys get together he could run them up.

Very slow this year. The big guys that were seen during bow season decided they didn't want to play with guns.

I ended up with a doe yesterday with the AR 15 in 223. A small 10pt buck this morning with the 308 sniperiffic rifle. Will post pics later. Autopsy pics and blood will be in a separate thread. For the kids of course...

But if no one's seeing any deer, why are we trying to fill doe tags?

Not everybody hunts up north, so some are probably. Where we were in MN, it should be bucks only for the next 5 years min.

We were in Douglas Co, WI this last week. This was the 2nd or 3rd year of bucks only. It's working. I saw 11 deer and 1 was a buck...a wide 6pt that offered no shot on thanksgiving morning. I saw more deer in WI this year than I have in the last 5 combined in MN.

With that and the rules for youth hunting, WI is the better place to hunt right now IMO.

The tent camp was exactly like I had imagined and I love it. I didn't want to come home. But tomorrow, will be my 5th day of work in November so I should probably show up. grin
