130gr Barnes TTSX 43 to 44.5grs of H4895 (bigger load in a bolt, lesser load for the 99).

The bolt gets @3K.

Been using 4320 and 150gr Ballistic Tips, Interlocks, and Normas interchangeably in my 99 and a Remington M7 I rebarreled. Haven't killed anything with the boltgun yet but the 99 is hell on deer with any of the bullets I listed.

Steelhead's 130 load is a good one in a bolt gun. I also have had good luck with 43 grains of H4895 and a Hornady 150 grain Interlock in my 722 and 700.

I load 41.5 of IMR 4064 with a Remington 150 core lokt or a Hornady 150 interlock. The Remington 150 CL load shoots under .5 for 3 shots on a good day.

In my 15" Contender I load 39.0 grains of W748 under a 150-grain Nosler BallisticTip. Velocity is just under 2400 fps and accuracy is stellar; the load should be safe in almost any firearm in good shape. Yes the velocity is on the low side but performance on deer is great, I have taken over a dozen deer with this load from 5 yards out to 225 yards. All tipped over quickly without a lot of blood-shot meat, and the only bullet recovered was from a lengthwise shot at 225 yards.

This is what a 300 Savage with 165gr NP over 39.5 gr of H-4895 will do. My wifes family heirloom Rem 722, great cartridge in the right hands.

I hunt a small area of land with shots under 150 yards. Nosler Partitions in 150/165/180gr (whatever the gun likes) and IMR4895 have done wonders for me. Not a high velocity powder, but accurate and deadly.

For longer range I would look to the 150gr BT or Partition and RL15 or Varget, both of which I've played with and look good but haven't worked up any loads.

Copied Steelheads load of H4895 @ 44-44.5grains with the 130gr TTSX. Consistently accurate.

My preferred load is 44 grains of H-4831 under a Lyman 31141 cast bullet for 2083FPS. Deadly on deer with 2" diameter holes through lungs and no bloodshot meat.

Watterrat - that's great!

Although recently ignored by a famous gunwriter (haha), this is one of my favorite topics, mainly so I can post these pics of my 722 AGAIN. Worked up this load EXACTLY five years ago today with the most basic of scavenged gear. IIRC, I had a whopping 2 boxes of 30s, 100 WLRs and a solitary pound of powder... I 'borrowed' some rings and a rail from Warne and bought a 24x Target scope from a junk bin at a LGS for $20. And had 168 free hours a week! Ah the good ol' days...

It's 43.0 grains Varget and the 150 Hornady Interlock SP at 2.7" with WLR and RP brass. It's hot and it really blew the heck out of a dink a couple years ago but I haven't changed a thing.

If I could only keep one, this would be it. Rifle is exactly as acquired besides the addition of a brass-ringed aperture to the Redfield.

... missed the dime.

Embarrassing, Rem 723!

At least one of these and two extra barrels in reserve.

I have been playing with a 170+- gas checked cast and the hogs don't like it.
I have been loading a stout charge of IMR 3031.

I have also been doing the same with150 gr.jacketed.
As for the charge i got it out of the 2014 load book from Hodgon.

My Savage 99 prefers Hornady 150SST bullets. The Hornady manual lists 44gr IMR4064, but used a Savage 110 bolt gun. Ken Waters listed 40gr of that powder tested in a Savage 99. Ken's load doesn't yield stretched cases in my 99.
