Wonder what Zim will charge extra for the trophy fee on the ivory? last time I saw anything, which has been some years ago, was over a $100 a lb, additional, but believe it'd be higher by now. Saw a breakdown on a hunt like this and the $60k did NOT include the additional add on for the ivory.

In Zim they do not base the trophy fee on the weight of the ivory, at least not where I hunted in 2008 and 2011. It is possible that the individual outfitter or the tribal council he leases from math do this.

What an elephant! If you read some of the old African hunt books, 100 lb Ivory was common place, of course that was 100 years ago! Can't remember where I read it, but a 100 lb was turned down a while back..... simply because the Hunter could not shoot such a magnificent animal! Nothing wrong with that, and nothing wrong with shooting this wonderful bull!

Nice Ellie!

Back in 2004 I shot one with about 60 lbs aside and it was much better than what was being taken on average. Back then a 40 lb a side ellie was considered a good, shootable bull.

Some outfitters do have a sliding scale based upon the size of the animal's tusks.

It pays to make sure you and your outfitter agree on things like this before you sign and give a deposit.

That hunter has the trophies of a lifetime. Provided he can sell them, they are probably worth close to 3/4 of a million dollars, easy.

Right now a 35 pound/tusk elephant is considered a good shootable bull in Zimbabwe. Such tusks are about four feet long and will really spice up your trophy room. About a third of the tusk is inside the elephant's skull in a living elephant.

Unfortunately, the USF&W Service has suspended the legality of importing any elephant parts into the US since last year, both from Tanzania and Zimbabwe, under the pretense that neither country has an adequate protection program against poachers. Though what that has to do with anything I cannot say. Outlawing lion importation will probably be next.

Thanks for the update. The USF&W, like all government organizations, decides policies on whichever way the political winds are blowing.

Although history shows us, that sport hunting helps preserve and protect natural resources, especially hunt-able species, groups like the WWF, PETA, etc, use every trick they can get away with to halt all forms of hunting.

Then the poachers have free rein to kill off all the free-roaming animals, with just a few semi-tame members of each species left in selected parks for the eco-tourists to take photos of and feel good about themselves.

Sorry for the soapboxing.

I killed a 93x92# with the same PH in 2013. Big ones still exist. 120# is incredible.

Superb trophy of a lifetime, make that several lifetimes!

Sad to hear the 100 elephants a day poaching number. If true, that's substantial.
