My dad has a 99 in 375 win. When working the lever there is a 2 1/2" to 3" piece that comes out from left side of receiver that will not allow him to close lever. Any idea what it is or why this happens. I cant adjust cam to small enough pic to post.

There are three.locations on the left side of the receiver that are factory drilled. They are the portal through which you view the cartridge counter on the spool, a screw hole above that which I think is there to hold the spot in, and another drew hole at the rear which holds the trigger, sear mechanism in place. Is there something coming out of any one of these holes?

Nothing sticking out. The piece looks to me like an ejector to me. He thinks shell guide. Is spring loaded

Another possibility is the small ejector spring under the ejector has broken or moved out of position. Does it move freely with finger pressure?

Ejector moves freely and with same pressure as my 300. Compared to mine, his bolt does go back father than mine also

I just had a bolt stop come loose but I'm not understanding the 2 1/2"-3 thing or the spring loaded thing. Neither say bolt stop to me ?????

the piece that "comes out", he thought it was a shell guide. i figured it was ejector. spring loaded about 2 1/2" x maybe 1/4" with a spring between it and left side of receiver. it pushes out in front of bolt when opened.

The correct name for that piece is automatic cutoff. It keeps the cartridges in the magazine when the bolt is open. It also doubles as the ejector.

Pre and post million actions have a very different style of cutoff. It stays in place on the pre mill guns when the bolt is removed.

How precise do we need to be making one? We have hand grinder and files, no machining tools.

They need to be the length that allows the bolt to open far enough to pick up the cartridges. It's a simple flat piece of steel, it's not rocket surgery.

Sounds like the back of the bolt got dinged up when the stop itself got buggered.

I'd get a long bolt stop for the early 99 and shorten it to fit.
