I'm thinking about trying 140 grain ttsx or 160 grain Accubond. Which one would be the best(considering the same accuracy)? Anybody have any experience with either of these two? Thanks.

I was very happy this year with results using the 150TTSX out of my 280 AI @ 3050 fps, maybe split the diff between those 2 bullets?

My friend got a few elk with the Nosler 160 Partitions from his 7mm SAUM

I killed a couple elk with a 160 AB out of a 7STW. About as good of an elk bullet as you can get.

This is a 140 TTSX recovered from a bull elk my wife killed last December. It was fired from a Model Seven in 7mm SAUM.



This bullet hit bone, expanded to within 1/8" of the bottom of the hollow point and shed the expanded "petals". I was disappointed in the very shallow hollow point because, at maximum expansion allowed by the depth of the hollow point, the frontal area of the expanded bullet is still very small. Weight retention was great, even with the shed petals, but I prefer a bullet that expands wider.

and that type of expansion is simply not possible with the shallow hollow point of the 7mm 140 TTSX.

No elk kills but I have taken many deer and bear with with the 160 ab and 150 Etips useing RL 17 actually favor the Etips a bit they have proven to be fine game bullets in my mod7 Saum. 56 grns with the Etips and 55 grns with the 160 AB

Thanks for the replys. I believe I've decided to go with the 160 grain Accubonds. Although, I found the Partitions for about half price of the Accubonds. Decisions, decisions. Lol

I've had very good luck with the 150 grain TTSX in my 7mm RM on Elk, deer, boar with good penetration and bone breaking out past 500 yards. Either bullet you choose will work fine on elk at any reasonable range.

My suggestion is to go with the most accurate load - nothing like ultimate confidence to improve your shooting at game. My rifle loves the 150's so that is what I have been shooting for several years.

I have had perfect performance from 160 AB's in several kills, but I did have one really bad "accubomb" as well.

I still use it in my 7mm SAUM.

what about the 120 TTSX? Anyone used these

My only experience with 7mm projectiles on elk is out of 7mm-08. Using 140gr NP and a Hornady 154gr that I had loaded for friends.

Both used on cow elk. Both bullets found on offside, perfectly mushroomed. Shots under 100 yards. No heavy bone struck. The hunter's that killed the elk, kept the bullets. There was no doubt that the elk wre dead at the shot. Neither traveled more than 25 yards.

Both examples of one, but would not foresee any issues out of a SAUM.

I've killed several elk with a 160 partition but haven't shot any of them over 100 yards. Worked fine. I am thinking of trying a barnes ttsx since they like being seated off the lands and col is limited in the seven due to magazine length. Mine shoots the 120 ttsx at around 3400 fps.

Ask Mule Deer what bullet(s) Chub Eastman used in his 280AI, since the 280AI and 7mm SAUM are two peas in a pod alike.

The 280AI and the 7mm SAUM are ballistic twins as Mule Deer says. However, the short magazine length becomes an issue with the Model 7. I would stick with a 140-150 grain premium bullet for that reason.

There's a 7mm150-gn Partition; I killed a number of deer with that bullet from a 7-08 because it's all that rifle liked. If mag constraints are at ~2.8" in that M7 SAUM that could be a good one.

The 160 AB is an accurate bullet from the several rifles I've tried it in and the BC is decent........ If you have the mag length to push it to at least 2800 fps you'd have a load with some reach-- if that matters to you. People say it kills stuff. Other Accubonds certainly do...........

I've worked up what I think maybe a decent load with the 160 AB's at 2840 average. I had to use Magpro powder to get the speed I was after. I've read that it's temp sensitive, though. If it shoots well at 200 yards, I'll do a cooler test on it to check the sensitivity of it.

I have used aamagpro in 270wsm and it works really well here in pa.

I just purchased a 7mm SAUM in Remington model 7 as well. I have looked at a variety of bullets and going to go with my old stand by that I have used for years in my 7mm Rem Mag, 150 grain Sierra boat-tail Game Kings. Sierra boat-tails have always shot so well for me throughout the years and always put animals on the ground. I wouldn't hesitate to use the 160's as well. Good luck.

One of the things that I noticed about my 7SAUM is that it shot everything well. I don't think there is a bad choice.

Whenever I think of elk, and 7mm cartridges, my brain automatically registers ...."160 Nosler Partition".

Seen too many bulls take a rapid snooze after receiving one.

It'll work on everything else ,too.

How bout anything you put in it then place it in the correct place..

Kind of a late response, but yeah. The 140gr TTSX works great out of a M7 in 7mmSAUM. It's my sons rifle but I felt like using it. Wish I had my own. He has used it with 160gr partitions on bear though that load would have worked just fine on elk too.

Is the 7 saum model 7 like the others with the short barrel? If so, what kind of velocities are you getting with it? I would think that velocities would suffer.

Mine has a 22" barrel. I'm getting around 2900 fps w/ 160 grain Accubonds.

I have a NIB 7 stainless/synthetic in 7mm SAUM that is surplus to my needs. $585 shipped in the contiguous 48 or $600 to AK/HI. If you'd be interested, I also have a NIB 7 laminated stock and an "as new" 673 laminated stock.

The The Remington 7s in 7mm and 300 SAUM have 22" barrels.

I have used all three, and quit using Barnes Bullets several elk ago, but am still using the AB and Partition. Both are outstanding bullets. In fact my last bull, (last year) was killed with the 160 AB great penetration and perfect performance.

Use a partition on elk. Or an accubond
