I am asking about the model the meets Oregon and WA ML requires
1.. I would like to hear from all that are shooting this model, the good , the bad, and the ugly. 2... Have any of you added a CF barrel to the unit,

Don't have any personal experience with the CVA's, but I noticed the Thompson's have 1/48 barrel twists which is not good for more modern bullets. I believe the CVA's are 1/28 which is what you are after.
Son in law has an older CVA plunger type muzzleloader and has taken many deer with it.
Some of the break action CVA's look like an improvement on most of the legal rifles in the NW.
Good luck!

There's no point in a twist faster than 1-48" for muzzleloader-only seasons in Oregon because we are limited to bullets no longer than twice as long as their diameter. The plus to the 1-48" twist is being able to push a PRB to full speed without tearing / cutting a patch.

If you're going to shoot a muzzleloader in regular rifle season, then switching to a faster twist and longer bullets makes sense.

I just started looking at the Optima v2 PNW as well.

Haven't played with a ML in 20 some years but the ml elk season up here seems to coincide with the rut and looks to be a good time.

They seem to be popular, accurate, and cheap.

I think I'll pick one up and mount a peep.
