Great job to you both. She sounds like a great girl. She inspired my young lady and managed to get her more excited for the day she can carry a rifle afield. Thanks for sharing!

Mike, glad it got her more excited, but based on your story and my experiences with the three I have, I don't think you're going to have any trouble getting that cutie of yours out in the field with a rifle. Some times it was a pia taking them when they were real small, but I don't regret it for a second. You let that young'un of yours know she'll obviously make a fine hunter one day.

Please pass along our congrats from TX!!! Love it when the kids start hunting, and especially when they not only love it, but help others. You have the parenting part down really well!!!
The write up was well worth the read also!!!! Like I was along for the ride!

PSH, I appreciate you taking the time to write up the story of your daughter's elk. One of my life's greatest pleasures has been hunting with my son.
Please pass on my congratulations on her elk, and accept my congratulations on raising a fine daughter or three.

PSH, it is a lot of trouble hunting with the little ones, and any chance at a monster goes out the door when you are loading a child seat. That's the reality of hunting with kids. My bird, deer, and antelope hunting has been given over for years and elk have remained my last vestige in this regard. It looks like I'll be sharing there in the future as well and I can't wait. The sacrifices are nothing in contrast to the fun we have. It looks like plenty of people here share my sentiment.

Thanks again guys. I actually let her read my post and I think she liked it as I got a hug afterwards, lol. I've been letting her read the comments as well so she is seeing what you all have to say. I think what I am most proud of was her willingness to help Steve, and even the couple the year before.
Mike, chances are good you're not going to find the monster with them along, but even something as simple as sitting on a hill in the mountains watching a coyote with them can be a better experience. Most of my best memories with them have been in the field.

Thanks again, glad it was worth the read. I was hoping it would be like you were along for the ride. I will say though, I probably just got lucky in raising them, lol. It helps a bunch when they have hearts of gold to begin with!

attagirl to your daughter!
my 10 year old just shot her first whitetail last Saturday. I hope like heck I can post a story like this someday!
First teach a child to love God, second teach him to love family, third teach him to fish and hunt and by the time he is in his teens no dope dealer under the sun can teach him anything. Cotton Cordell
