Not unless the rifle tells you it wants it. It's highly likely you can get by with regular dies.

I have never needed a small base die even for mil-spec Semi-auto chambers.

What I WOULD do is make sure you bump the shoulder back slightly, about .002", which will assure reliability. You will need to purchase a comparator for this. If you follow die Manufacturer instructions, you'll probably have short case life.

A deprimed 40 S&W case is a good stand in for this application.

Deprime the piece of 300 Savage brass.

Place the mouth of the 40 case over the neck of the 300 case, then measure the whole thing case head to case head in your calipers.

Now size the 300 brass.

Put on the 40 case again and remeasure.

The difference between the two measurements is the amount of shoulder movement for the 300 case.

Good tip, I'll remember this!

Does this mean I have to go buy a .40, now? grin

I have handloaded for the 760 in 300 Savage since the mid 60's and have used only standard dies. I started with Herters and had no problems, then shifted to RCBS and still no problems today. As far as your 760, it will tell you if you can get by with standard dies.....
