Can anyone comment on wether these run true to size.

Thanks, Brad. Went to buy a pair from Filson and it seems they have been discontinued. As a result I have to get them off ebay which complicates returns if they don't fit. Do you think one size larger will work?

I am short, stocky, bit of a gut and twisted spine, so, wear my strides looser than most will.

I consider these to be THE woolen pants for most BC mountain wear and bought two pairs some years ago. I usually wear a 43-44" pant and bought my Filsons in 46, just right and they are the cats ass in late season rain and snow, which we get a LOT of here.

The only issue is wind and for that, I simply use heavier under pant longjohns of merino.

I have used a LOT of different pants over decades in the bush and if I could only have ONE pair, the Filsons whipcords would be my first choice.

Sadly, they are no longer being made.

I wear a 33 in wranglers and my filson whip cords are 34.

I have two pairs, a green pair with suspender buttons that I wear hunting and stuff and a grey pair my wife got me because she likes them and thought I needed some cold weather pants that were nice. They are about an inch or inch and a half bigger in waist size than my waist actually is, so yes, they run kind of tight.

As a substitute, you might consider the First Lite Kanab pants. I bought a pair to use in Kansas. Used them all last week. They are wool mixed with something else,seem lighter but are surprisingly warm,resist all kinds of abuse so far.



I was impressed enough that I am getting a second pair. They come with suspenders which is pretty neat.

I looked at those,Bob. However the cut appeared to be like skinny jeans the hipsters wear with not much room for layers.

Folsom had their whipcord pants made by Johnson Woolen Mills. You can still buy them from them and at a way better price. Hope that helps.

Ben I am not one of those hipsters trust me LOL!.

They fit fine with a pair of Patagonia medium weight long underwear with room to tuck in a wool shirt.Mine actually run a bit baggy,and are very comfortable.

In Kansas, I threw a pair of wool mil surps over them for cold morning stands. By mid day it warmed and the Kanabs were fine. I rolled around the dirt with them the rest of the day and then wore them out to dinner. They seem to shed dirt, grass and burrs,and brush off easily.

Guys, I have the Filson whipcord pants that I bought just a few years ago. Not sure they're that much better than other whipcords I've had from other places. They are well made, but lacked the suspender buttons that I am used to. That was easily remedied, though. In my experience, they run a bit small. I ordered a size 38 when I normally wear a 36 and they fit just right, might even be a bit snug.

Also, I saw this discussed elsewhere here on 24hcf, that Filson had discontinued these pants, and someone else said that LL Bean was selling them now. I've had the Bean pants. They have been making those for years. Another great option.

That is completely false. I have room to wear heavy first light merion layers, as well as a heavy fleece layer over those under my Kanabs. I bought the 36's which is my normal pants size. They are fantastic.

i think you'll be pleased with them, i also find that the suspenders they send with them are fantastic

As luck woukd have it I now have a pair of whipcords coming as well.. I got them for $15.50, used but in good shape.

First Lite Kanabs or Big Bill Codets are all I need regardless of temps.

The new LL Bean whipcord's are not like their old ones. The old ones resembled the Filson in almost every way, maybe even better. New ones are different material, but similar cut. I always order a size up on all of them to accommodate layers.
