In the mid 60's Marlin offered a liight weight straight stocked 39 with slim barrel and 2/3 length magazine. Supposedly made 10,000 +/- but they are hard to find in good condition. So many of the nice older 22's were used and abused. I'd like to find one for son-in-law. Any leads appreciated.

That's a tough quest. I've been watching them on GB and they break the $1000 mark if they are nice. But more importantly, they don't come up often at all. Good luck in your search.

Congratulations on your 39A Golden. Post couple pictures when you get a chance. Older original & unaltered 39's in nice condition are being kept by current owners. A nice Holiday catch for you!

The 39A Carbine is getting harder and harder to find and when they do come up for sale prices usually start around $800 and work up. The last really nice one I saw on GunBroker a few months ago sold for $1300.00. I found one earlier this year that must have been a special order as the wood is AAA walnut. It was also engraved and high polished blue... The gun was found in a closet a couple of years after the owner had died and the family didn't want it so put it at a local shop under consignment. http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/10340770/39A_Carbine...#Post10340770Bob

It is funny...that stock actually "glows" in the gun safe compared to all the other guns except maybe the #K1A in 7.62x39...I am hoping to find out who the owner was as his initials are on the receiver. All the gun shop will tell me is that the grandson found it in a closet two years after the older gentleman died and the family decided to put it up for sale...
I find that the Carbine has the best balance of all the 39s...it is light and fast to the shoulder...
Also posted this find on one of the other forums... One of the members responded that he had seen that gun the day before I bought it and passed on it because the collectors value had been ruined...

Bob - thanks for the GB listing. Hoping to find a one a little nicer, but it is good to see one offered from time to time.
