I checked last night, and found a 75gr Amax touches the lands when loaded to an OAL of 2.428". There's plenty of bullet inside the case neck, so I think the throat is well designed to take heavier VLD style bullets. I have a couple of good AR's, but aside from looks, this rifle adds some interesting functionality to the .223.

Pulled the Loopey 6.5-20-40 VX-iii off the .22-250, mounted it on the K1V, bore sighted on the range, and it suddenly turned erratic on me, tossing shots around. The adjustable objective has to be spun to infinity, to get it to focus at 100 yds. Back to Loopey frown

I went ahead and kept shooting it, to fireform brass. It settled down some and was doing groups of 1 to 1.5" at 100 yards, and seemed to do about equally well with 69gr TMK's and 55gr TTSX's. I'll work on it more next weekend, and slap a 12x fixed M8 on it.

Can you live with 4-12 VX-2. Available in silver:

https://www.leupold.com/hunting-shooting/scopes/vx-2-riflescopes/vx-2-4-12x40mm-adj-obj/

Retail:

http://www.opticsplanet.com/leupold-vari-x-ii-4-12x40mm-adjustable-objective-rifle-scope.html

Really extra $80 for silver? I guess...

The gloss blue and gloss rings might be a nice contrast to polished stainless and be a more versatile scope if it need to get purposed in the future.

BTW, I have to agree that is a One nice looking No1. First time I have seen a 1 in stainless that looked even good to me. This is well beyond good.

An update is I swapped a Loopey fixed 12x onto it, and it shoots patterns with the 75gr Amax, just like the last scope. frown I checked cartridge weight & concentricity and all seems fine. Gonna check the twist, and tinker with forend bedding.

It does better with 55gr TTSX, will put 4 in 7/8" then toss the next one 1½" away. So I'm still working on it

I get a 1 in 9" twist, when I check the twist. smirk hmmm...

This past weekend I tried 3 new bullets with Varget, in Lapua match brass. It liked the Berger 77gr OTM Tactical best. 77 Sierra TMK's were okay, and 69gr TMK's shot well.

I may the first person to ever shoot 77gr Bergers in a Ruger #1 grin but they work well in this limited session.

I hope those groups tighten up a bit after some barrel break in. Cool rifle.

Probably try to smack a turkey with the 77 Bergers, then work some more with Varget & 55gr TTSX and 60gr Partitions.

Darn it! And here I was about to try to sell you a boatload of 90gr Sierras and 80gr Nosler CC. grin

Mine showed up yesterday. I'm not happy if the twist is only 1:9 I was planning on using a bunch of 80 gr. Bullets I have, I'll just have to try them.

I'll be curious to see what others report. Mine is around 1 MOA with the 77gr Tipped Matchkings, which are almost as long as the 75 Amax. At least here near sea level, bullets have to be about 1.03" long or shorter, to shoot well.

I am really interested in one of these as I've always wanted a No 1, but I'm not sure it's worth the $1400+ it'd be after taxes/FFL fees. Especially if they cannot shoot 75 grain bullets.
